40 to 50 a year is on the being real lucky side....you have to own one to really get the whole offshore experience...headers 32000 every 4 ,5 years, motors 3 at 15 to 20 a piece every 3 years..15 to 20 per year on break downs, no matter what! How do you freshen a 1100 horse blower motor for 2 to 3 grand? Thats the miami shuffle! Drives serviced every 3 years 3 to 6 per,there is always something wrong,worn..you do not think that those motors are going to make it 3 years before you POP one ,do ya? Nope,there goes another 10 to 20...ooops we just went over that 20 maintenance budget .....if your running those 1100s like a set of 525s,which we all do if we have them..its gonna cost you more than this! I need a whole page..gas,5 to 700 per day no sweat,,thats with not beating on them...ooops I forgot you have to beat on them to go and have fun,1000 per day, gas is like paying a toll...they are the best though, king for a day if your lucky! POP...you just blew something.....oooooops :eek: :D

It's just hard to fathom that kind of cash to keep one of those running. My boat has a 675hp N/A 540 that I run WFO pretty much all the time. It's 4 yrs old, I freshened it once (rings,bearings, valve job) for a cost of $1500. (it helps that a friend owns a shop) it gets valvesprings every other season and lifters every. Being in freshwater I haven't even worried about the CMI's , and I got them used they are probably 6yrs old. I know my boat and one of these is like comparing a bi-plane to the space shuttle but it's still just motors and drives.
It surprising that those boats are that hard on equipment. $1000 a day in gas :eek:
I guess your right on the $3k for a freshen, I'm assuming on something like those motors "freshen" is pistons,rod bolts,valvesprings,lifters,intercoolers? and that blows 3 right there without labor.
Whenever I see "Kemosabe" out on the lake I always have respect but now there's even more.

Pushing 10 to 15 thousand pounds around all day is tough on engines and drives. The life expectancy of engine and drives that push this kind of weight is lower than normal.

Truck: you can find used semi's for 15k right now and i would not tow that beast w/ anything less out of state.

Tonto brought up the real problem: It WILL cost 40k a year to maintain, insure, and run that beast. Plus you need a crew to help with docking, loading and unloading, etc.

It may only be $ 135 k to purchase but it's the yearly mainenance costs that will bury you.

I have often thought about buying a 47' beast but when you sit down and figure the #'s your better off w/ a used 38 Topgun.

I told Jay the same thing, get a 38 Top Gun. In fact, I've got a clean '91 with fresh engines in his price range, but he doesn't want TRS drives :eek:

Im going to hang on to the innerlimits for now.
House ended up being more $ than I thought out of pocket so I need to spend a few months recovering from this hit.
(on an item that appreciates in value im not so concerned though)
