Jim k ex Awesome owner final ride to hell
Before any body slams me for being cold let me say i could not stand the guy and im not the only one.
I would shed a tear and feel bad about loosing my lab more than him. That being said jim took his life on aug 16 when the police were going to take him to jail they were at his trailer to pick him up and he took the cowardly way out he shot himself. He had some serious bad charges against him i wont get into that but i will say the world will be a better place without him. I also will say i new jim for over 25 years even i couldent believe he could be as bad as he was RIP jim (HELL) Also dont think bad of me for the things ive said i thought he was a friend at one time he was very bad man its just to bad he dident end up in jail but then we would have to pay for that to so maybe he did every body a favor. |
That explains why whats left of the boat molds are for sale. I saw them a few years ago,, they were ruff then..

When klym was running jim and marie out of business and trust me he was the biggest problems they had he tryed to do to them what he did with owner or predator power boats when he set him up and ran him out of business after he sold it to him.
But jimmy was slick enough and i dont know how he pulled it off and i dont want to know but jim wasnt able to get his hands on the molds so he wasent able to buy the molds for pennies on the doller like he did with the owner of predator. Dont get me wrong im not saying all these people were on the full up and up but they were no match for the devel himself. I would have to at the look molds that are there but there was some scaming going on there to . . I do know at one pointe in time there was a complete 38 mold that he scamed. |
Yowza......
Gary from the talks we've had its been all good and positive things from you so ill take this post as no joke........wow.....love to hear a couple war stories some time. Rip. MD |
Mike i will give you a ring wanted to talk to you any way but yes this guy was a real piece of work i will fill you in on what went on with jim lately and in the past you wont believe it .
This could be a tv show of all things he did and some were real bad ill fill you in. By the way the boat looks great |
wasn't Jim Jones of Jim and Marie was Klems son?
|
Ya give me a buzz whenever you'd like. I'll be down in Solomon's in a couple weeks.
Thx on the boat. Now I just need to get it to run great...lol |
Yes jimmy changed his last name to his step dads last name when he was young he new when he bought the awesome business it could be a problem with jim he just never thought it would go were it went.
|
wow all this time I was under the Impression that Jim Jones was the root cause of the business going under, didn't know the inside story. what ever happened to Jim and Marie?, they were very fair with me.
|
This may be what brought Jim to his final demise. I heard about this back in 2011.

I dont talk to them any more i have my own reason for that but i do know they are no longer together and i do know a lot people gave them a bad rep but they were trying to do good things klym was a major factor to there problems.
Just remember the old saying you cant please everyone. |

http://milawyersweekly.com/news/2011...s-against-man/ He was into real sick stuff i mean the worst. |
damit another account i cant collect on, he would stop by from time to time and dig thru my scrap to make motor mounts , i always said ill collect on the next visit
|
well you learn something new every day, from all the bad stories over the years I feel fortunate because I must be part of the few people who got out with a fair deal, because Jim K wrote my contract and sold the business to Jim and Marie in the middle of my build, all when well with the deal at closing, and after 12 years, I still have the boat and haven't had any real issues with the hull (Yet) knock on wood!!

http://milawyersweekly.com/news/2011...s-against-man/ In my opion there was no boat because he had the first 38 made and thats the only 38 he had and if i remember correctly his was a 1999 or 2000 and the boat i saw was his personal boat the first 38 built and the vin tag said it was 2004 I think i still have a picture of the vin but i do know the boat because it had speedies on it and it was ugly and i saw it when it was being built back in aprox 1998 Infact i think i have pictures of it when it was being transported to florida because the guy that was moving it had trailer trouble had to have it fixed and i stumbled unto it. I no more about this dirt ball than i want to. The more i think about this hole thing the more i remember and they are not good memories. |

I remember a Awsome cat that was in the auction in Flint seem like it had some vin issues.
|
Gary sorry to hear that you got screwed!! To be perfectly frank about it My wife and I never really felt good about the whole thing during the build, so we never gave any money up front and only agreed to pay upon completion, and inspection. He did try to get 75K up front to start the project, we told him to pound sand, and were on our way out the door when he caved in sketchy, to say the least but it did end fair. again sorry to hear that you weren't as fortunate!! I would like to hear more about his crap if you are ok to talk about it sometime..

Infamous Awesome Boats
Ah yes, Klym, I knew the man since the early 70's when he was building boats out of storage buildings on 12 mile rd. in Warren Mi. and outfing junk yard big blocks in them. The engines got a power wash, oil change, and chrome valve covers. The bill of sale on the vessel would list it as a "Hi Performance Chevrolet" as quite often he had no idea of the displacement. In short he owned Custom Speed Marine, Dynamic Marine, Aero Boats and Awesome Powerboats not to mention some others. Awesome was sold to Bob Metzler then named Predator Boats reaquired after a lawsiut and ultimately it's bankruptcy. I could go on but that's an earfull enough for now

Chris to think it all started in your Dads driveway when I bought Jim's first offshore hull a 24' Cheetah back in 1974. Than your Dad bought one and the rest is history, all our friends had to have one. By 1976 Lake St Clair had more of Jim's boats than any other offshore out there. A rattle can of black spray paint was Jim's best friend.
I remember Dad's for sure and Al's. Did he put jet drives on a lot of them? I've seen a few throughout the years. I remember going with dad when he went against his better judgement and had the 31 cat built. I think he used all of his vacation just to keep an eye on him. Luckily we didn't get screwed. I know many others that have and it doesn't matter if you were a blood or not! Good to hear from you Mark haven't seen you this summer. |

Thanks for the response, Gary, I know how you feel. I hate liars, thieves and crooks as well.

Yes Gary that was my new 1974 Vega GT I was on top of the world back then with my new toy's. I raced this boat in the APBA modified class against the Wolverine back then and got my butt kicked, but at least I finished the 80 mile race. I bought this hull from Klem with the jet drive, than Daryl & I re rigged it with a big block that Daryl built. Yes Chris thats your old house where we did all the work on it. Looking back little did we know what we were getting ourselves into..
Pretty cool. |
Gary, not to Hijack this thread, but Do you know where I can get a 1/4" thick spacer for a standard Bravo drive. when Jim K cut in my drives one side is 1/4' higher, and needs to be changed..
|

Gary, I remember the huge mess Dan Humes got into when he bought a 32 Cat from Klym and built the PEPPERS boat ( EXIDE later )......... It was still wet with glass for months and months. I was the fixer/mechanic/gofer back then and put a lot of reglassing in that mess......... I don't remember but I think Danny ended up with it for a song after the law suit, but I do remember what a slippery dude JK was even back then ...................... 'Klyms Gems' ............ Sounds like he treated everyone the same way........ :(

Wow. I take a few days off and shet hits the fan. Never met (do I consider myself lucky?) JK , so can't say anything negative about the man. As for Jim Jones is concerned, he never did me wrong. Did everything he stated without issue.
Now what JJ did to others, that is a whole other BIG story/stories. Let this pics serve as a storyline for the "Jim Jones Boat Caper's". Boat #1) 38 Awesome Warcat - new being built Boat #2) 31 Awesome cat - new without power/drives Boat #3) 38 Fountain Express Cruiser - used trade-in (sorta) |
Wow sounds like a real mess. I bought a Manning from one of the Jims around 2000 for my Awesome Even that simple deal felt sketchy, had to pay upfront and wait a month for it to be built. Looking back I'm glad I didn't get burned.

Hi Gary
Just read this and made a statement. Everything thing you said about that pond scum is true and more ! G. in FL |
Klym's Legacy??
Believe it or not, got a call from Klym's daughter Mary. We think he screwed his customers, what he did to his wife and daughter was a step worse even for Klym. Mary is looking for where he was hiding his 38 cat so they can recoup some of the damage he had done to her and her mom Joan. If any one has a idea I think it'd be cool to get one back on Klym.
Oh yeah, the rumor on Mark his son from the marrige with Joan was not true he died in his 40's from heart damage suffered in a snowmobile accident, not drugs. I remember it was a nasty one that almost killed him at that time. |
