From what I understand after talking to several experienced boat dealers/wholesalers and fiberglass shops the 1991-1998 260's that had the exhaust through the transom were likely to experience water intrusion that lead to the soaking of the transom. In some of the later boats you'll notice the exhaust was re-routed over the transom and the engine hatch was cut to accommodate the exhaust, these boats had less transom trouble. Fresh water is much harder on the transom then it comes to water intrusion too, I'm not sure why. I was told by 2 different custom boat builders fresh water water intrusion is worse than salt water intrusion, to me water intrusion is intrusion.

A friend of mine is selling his. here are the details

2001 Awesome Powerboats 26' Cat
$28,000
Troy, MIBuilt in 2001
572 fuel injected big block - tuned for pump gas 93 (made 760hp on an engine Dyno)
Kieth black aluminum block
Brodix heads
FAST marine fuel injection with custom wiring harness
Oil cooler
External wet sump oil system
Dana billet trim tabs
Livorsi guages
Power steering
New interior 2012
Boat is wrapped by Sticker Dude out of Chicago and would be all white if removed
Trailer included
Boat hours are under 200
Engine hours since rebuild are under 5
Asking $28k o.b.o.

With the current engine combination the boat has been mid 90s. This same engine with higher compression and race fuel the boat ran about 105-109. We freshened the engine up in 2012 and pulled compression out of it for the fuel injection and pump gas setup.
