Re: who will win.

unless he's got some motor mods, you should take him no problem,, figure what,, 66-67 your boat and 65 272 ??

WHOSNEXT 05-20-2005 02:51 PM

Re: who will win.

you should win, you have more hp and smaller boat.

Chris288 05-20-2005 02:54 PM

Re: who will win.

Boats are very equal in lenght,, 25 outlaw is 25 while the 272 is 27 w/ swim.. I just looked at the weights and the o.l. is 4,750 while the 272 is 4,400 so I would run LIGHT on fuel and you should be ok.. That H.O. has a bit more torque than the 502..

hes got nothing down but he swears he hits 70. hey chris you going to be on the hudson next weekend

Re: who will win.

This is a tough call. I believe the hull design of the 272 is that much different from the 25 that it will depend on the water conditions. I think the 25 will win in rough water, but the 272's are lighter and the hull wants to ride higher in water versus slicing through it. I owned a 25 with a 502 and I do think it will be a close race. If they are both bone stock down to the prop, he may have you. I know that is not what you want to hear .

Let us know how it turns out.
Bill

Re: who will win.

open your engine hatch just about 2 inches and let some cool air get to the engine. It will be close. Good luck!

Re: who will win.

Have you ran your boat yet ?

You may want to get a little bit of seat time before you go out and run that thing balls to the wall in a race. Don't want to be reading about you on Monday....... Plus with a bit of seat time you will find your sweet spots in your drive and tab settings.

Re: who will win.

I had a 97 272 w/ 502 mag. Ran 64-65. My 01 25 Outlaw w/ 496HO ran 67. Your 25 runs much better in the rough than his 272 also. That boat is very easy to drive. Just get out your GPS, keep trimming it up till it won't go any faster. Unless it's rough, then find the sweet spot and leave it. I left my tabs at level with the bottom and never touched them. What prop are you two running?

overly optomistic faria speedometer

Around here,
the 385 powered 25 o/l's will run with
the 502 272's.......You should be ok.

it will be on the hudson somewhere

Re: who will win.

I agree. No way a stock 272 with a 502 is at 70 true MPH.

Our 97 272 had a blueprinted bottom. labbed prop, slightly bigger cam, and Gil headers and ran 72 on its best day.

My 2000 baja 272 ran 65-66mph (when it was still stock) THEN i bought a gps and the damn thing slowed my boat down to about 62.5 on a good day!!! Last year i ran 84.5 at end of season with my blown 540 that was just starting to get tired, boat went 85.1 when motor was fresh! Smitty

Re: who will win.

Just hacking on you, but is this thread going this long on boats that are way under 70mph? those numbers shouldn't be racing anything .... just kiddin with ya... have fun. BTW I had a 24 O/L in the day with a 454 mag and it ran 58 on a good day..

Re: who will win.

My buddy had a 1999 272 with a 502 and I had a 97 272 with a carb Mag 454. I could always out run him and we could never figure out why. The only reason we could come up with was the old timer I ordered my 272 from said unless I was going to be on Lake Ozarks all the time to forget the tabs. So I ordered it without tabs and the boat never needed them either. I do believe tabs will take a mph or two off of top speed. Long story short i promise you a 272 with a stock 502 is 65-66mph...no more

i`ve got a `92 260 will run 230 mph on gps wanna run

Re: who will win.

I am always on the River,, can find me in Newburgh,, I will also be heading down to NYC for the Poker run,, plan is to leave newburgh around 8:00 go to LL marina and check out the hardware and then head back north with the run..

P.S. I think the h.o. will take the 502 by about 1-2 mph,, you may have to race for several miles to see a winner,, if it's a bit rough like the hudson can be you will definitely have an edge..

this just in. had to do a few runs this weekend to learn this new boat. today was the best run. about a one foot chop, with a little more then half tank of fuel i hit 68.3 on gps. does this sound like where i should be in a 2002 25 outlaw 496 ho.

Re: who will win.

My speed
25 OL going down river 66.8 GPS 1/4 tank of gas two people
plain 496 mag 23p mirage trimming too much resulted in a speed loss so excess trim up will hurt you

jbkirk 06-06-2005 07:52 AM

Re: who will win.

I dont know about the OL's but my 98' 272 w/ 502 mag has hit 70 on the speedo before but must have had wind to my back because 65-67mph sounds more like it under normal conditions. I added a couple 100lbs of stereo equipment and that also took a couple mph..
