Re: Anyone with a 36 calculate your prop slip?
2002 Baja 36 Outlaw 500 EFI's with XZ drives.
Came stock with Merc 26 Pitch Bravo 1 4-blades. I could turn the stock props at 5000 RPM. I could go out stock and run 70 to 71 all day long. After one season Darrin at Houston Propeller labbeb my props. The first time he put too much cup in them and I did not gain anything. The second time he cut them paper thin and they would turn up 5200 t0 5250 just under the rev limiter and the best ever GPS speed I ever saw was just under 75 MPH. If memory serves me right it was like 74.3 MPH on the GPS. I believe that Baja changed the "X" in 2001 from what I have been told. I know the rev limiter from Merc is either 5300 or 5350 RPM. I just replaced both of my tachs this winter. One was doing crazy things and would jump up to 5500 to 5600 and then back to normal with the props firmly planted in the water and the other one turns out to have had a bad ground. Did you buy your boat new? If not I would say the Rev limiter has been reprogrammed. Are your props stock? If they have been worked or came off a different boat then you could have problems. I borrowed a pair of labbed 28's from a buddy that were brand new. They were done by Throttle Up which does great work. I could spin them at 5300 RPM but I lost 5 MPH. Turns out they were set up for a 32 Sunsation with a stepped bottom. Dock |
Re: Anyone with a 36 calculate your prop slip?
P.S.
I spin mine out. My boat did NOT like them spinning in. The starboard did all the work and the port slipped bad. I look forward to trying them in again with the A/C pickup gone off the bottom. |

We have it at 5800 right now, but it will be moved to 5600 after all testing. The 26's are labbed by throttle up, but the dont have any cup in them (and they came off stans 36 outlaw). I have the a/c up front, and it feels like the front is dragging a little, so maybe with some cup Ill pickup the front and more speed. When you are trimming up, where do your indicators read? Im having to get it up to 8-9 which seems pretty damn high! |

I Know They Changed The "x" In 2001 (on The 36)but Did Testing In
99 My "x" Is The Same As A 2002 A Friend Of Mine Has A 99 25 Outlaw And His "x" Is Higher Then The 2001 We Measured So Go Figure Thats Why The 2 Inch Shorties Did Not Work For Me That I Thought Would For Sure I Thought My "x" Was 1.5 Lower Then It Was. |

Mine is on the starboard side, but is 4-5 inches out of line with the drive. |
Re: Anyone with a 36 calculate your prop slip?
Any Up Dates Yet????
|
Re: Anyone with a 36 calculate your prop slip?
Not yet. I sent my carbs to mesa balancing to rework. Im having the a/c pickup removed, and bungs installed the the risers to check a/f ratios. should have it wrapped up in the next 2 weeks, then ill try all the props and get with throttle up to do the final dial in.

Re: Anyone with a 36 calculate your prop slip?
I just heard from laz, he said my carbs were jacked up. the metering block was plugged on one, someone switched the powervalves from the stock 4.5's and put in 6.5's. He thinks ill get anywhere from 200-400 rpms when i get them back. Im hoping to try it next weekend and i should have the a/c pickup off by then.

Stan,
do you think the 4.5's will help or hurt? |
Re: Anyone with a 36 calculate your prop slip?
I Am Not Saying 4.5 Is Not Good I Just Said That The
Stock From Merc Is 6.5 I Use A 4.5 . |

If you don't expect much then every little bit you gain seems like a lot. I have told everyone that with all the work we have done that I expect to loose 3 MPH!!!! We are leaving after work tomorrow to head down and pick our boat up finally. I'm taking two sets of props to try Wednesday in that beautiful 70+ degree Florida sunshine. I'll let you know how see does. |

I went back and forth on the 731 vs 741 and the outcome i was told was the 741 made more power BUT 1. there was a better chance for reversion 2. it was in an unusable rpm range. BUT the 731 cam isnt much more cam than the stock hp500 carb cam. |

I was told by several, including the tech at Crane that reversion would not be an issue. |
