2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
3 Attachment(s)
We thought you guys might be interested in seeing the 30 Outlaw with 600SCI's that we ordered for one of our customers. The boat ran 93+ with labbed 34 pitch 4 blades. Baja did a great job with this boat all the way down to the custom accents like the smoked hatches, and the smoked cabin door. I have attached a few pics of the boat and engines.

Great looking boat... I'm sure a scary price. Especially an ordered rig.

Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Beautiful boat! I like the blue cockpit A LOT!
|
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Thanks for sharing.
That is one really sweet ride, but the colors are just too dark and not for me. To each his own. Will this boat be running up on Cumberland? |
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Not to crazy about the colors...but thats ok....and man im not sure i would want to go that fast in a 30 O/L
|
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Wow, that looks nice!!
|
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Is that a poker run layup or standard? I can't believe that it wouldn't run harder than that with 600's.
I thought Baja's 30 with 525's ran 92 ? Nice boat I don't know if I care for the blue either.............its gonna get hotttttttttttt. |
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Thanks for the responses guys, this boat was a sold order and the owner is really proud of it. We are still dialling it in, props have been quess work, this is the only 30 built with 600's. Midrange is awesome, this is probally the fastest boat from 30 to 80 that I have ever driven. There are a few mph left on the top end once the props are correct. Doc, the boat should be here for the poker run in Sept., we will have the houseboat again this year stop in and see us.

Dont be scared, Ive been faster than that in a hammer and a 21 elimenator |
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
I have riden in a 30 and they are a very stable boat.
We have friends running 110 MPH in a 29 Fountain, 100 MPH in a 28 Velocity and 115 MPH in a 25 Eliminator. I'll take the 30! :D |

110 in a 29 fountain would suck, they are way to stern heavy with twins, and dont forget the 32 that we saved the people at travis 04 poker run it hooked and spun out and flipped and pretty much broke in half

Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Im not a Baja lover, but I give credit due when I see it. I think they did a nice over all job. Jeff

Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Well I know someone has already asked but.....
What price range is the boat going for? Will Baja deliver a boat hull only minus the engines? Really looks like a sweet ride, they have really stepped up lately. Boat looks real good. A few tweeks and you have a 95 mph boat. Thanks for ANY info...........mp |

I'm afraid to ask.

Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
I have looked at this post about 4 times a day waiting to see a pic of the GPS showing tripple digits.
Also I think the blue is growing on me....................you just don't see blue go fasts everyday.................. Nice boat keep us updated on the #'s |
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
The boat is great looking, I agree Baja has stepped it up.
is it true, a 30 Baja w/ 525's will run 92? wow that sounds fast to me, maybe I should look at them again. Speed |

Correct me if I am wrong, but most 29 Fountain Fever's were built with a single engine. Early limited amounts were built with twin's. And yes, much better with a single then a twin. The 29 with a single (other then docking manners) is a great boat. Stable, well balanced and a very low CG. Late 2000 hulls and up with the larger step with a single is the one to target. |

Only thing I don't like is the lime green vinyl accents on the seats and sides...they should have gone with yellow...

Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Now you’re talking, STEPPED HULLS!!! :D
I’m not sure why Baja has not embraced the ventilated hull concept?? |

I’m not sure why Baja has not embraced the ventilated hull concept?? From a safety standpoint Baja is not wanting to go with a stepped hull. I respect that. I think they are making great strides without it. Poker Face is a light layup boat, but from a dead stop it out ran a 35 Fountain also with 525's by a nose in two miles at the Tick Faw Poker Run. The fountain probably had a full cuddy, but it also had twin steps. So do the math! The owner of the Fountain was pretty funny, his comment was "That is the fastest damn Baja I have ever seen". |

With the high sales volume, I doubt they want to subject themselves to the liability in this day and age of "sue happiness". |

Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
The 29 I was refering to is a single with around 1200 HP.
You would not catch me in it, but the owner claims that it is very stable and runs like it is on rails. |

Baja, because of the large lineup they make from 20 feet to 40 feet and the price factor, attracts a lot of first time performance boaters to the sport with little to no experience. Usually the guys that go to the stepped hulls have years of experience with non-stepped boats. Many actually started out with Baja. They have their nitch, and are doing very well with it. Unfornunately we still hear of those in stepped boats that should have had more experience, such as the guy down at Tick Faw a couple of weeks ago. |

Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
I think baja has done a tremendous job in the past few years to really push the envolpe on safe, straight hull boats. The have introduced 4 new models in as many years. That is huge.
30 outlaw 23 outlaw 35 outlaw 405 performance and a 26 outlaw coming out this summer.......... What other builder has done that? |
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
plus a couple others.
245 came out in 2004 20 Outlaw came out late 2002-2003 230 Sport Fish 202 Islander 195 Islander All in the last 4-4.5 years. |
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Let's not forget the good dealers that Baja has supporting the product line.
I have to put "Alton Blakely" high on the list of dealers! Baja is definately moving forward. |
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Can someone explain the step hulls. in the sense that I have never riden in a steped hull boat. When you say unstable at what point? A 30 outlaw at 80 with steps would start getting unstable at 70,80 or 90mph?? Just in rough waters or during manuvers. I may be broad hear but I see almost all boats running steps. Welll performance that is. In looking at some of the newer wow two, three or more deep steps. Thanks.
I guess I wasnt into boating in the 90's when steps just came about. In the latest powerboat mag. Teague mentioned steps have come a long way since the early unstable days. Dennis |

I guess I wasnt into boating in the 90's when steps just came about. In the latest powerboat mag. Teague mentioned steps have come a long way since the early unstable days. Dennis The steps are basically notches in the side of the hull that allow air in. The air bubbles act like ball bearings between the water and hull to break up the friction. I have had a lot of experience with Fountains, having driven 29's, 35's a 38 and a 42. Personally I find that they ride more flat on the water as compared to a Baja which carries the bow more. I think the Baja and other true deep vee's have a better ride, but I have not found any of the Fountains I have ridden in or driven to be unstable. Actually I am very impressed at how well they ride and have seen experienced drivers do things that they caution against with no ill effects. You just have to learn how to drive them. First you do NOT trim the drives down in a turn. Second you really do not want to make any hard turns at speed if you can avoid it. They do react a little differently to waves hitting them from the side compared to a true deep vee, but other then that I do not see a lot of difference. I can put anyone in my 36 and it is almost impossible for them to mess up. With a stepped hull you need to learn a few basic rules and pay closer attention to the way you drive it. The air bubbles free up the hull from the water which give you the extra 10+ MPH in most cases. This also means the hull is a little loose and if you trim down the drives in a turn you drop the nose and the center of gravity changes. What can happed is the bow catches and the rear end being loose with the air underneath spins around (hooks). Usually most of the passengers will go for a swim, and it happens FAST. Don't be afraid of them, just respect them. Hope this helps a little. Dock |
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Thanks dock. I had a different thought in theory. Just that the hual was out of the water more and less surface area (touching water) ment less drag=more speed. Didnt realize it was to create bubbles or actual air under the boat.
My neighbor has a 38 fountain th some hipo motors... He claims 90mph. Its a 2000 or 01 lightning. I think. I am sure he will let me drive it. To me it is a bigger class compared to my 29OL. I'll post when I finally get a ride. Its been parked for almost a year so it still may be a few months. So this is off topic for the thread starter. Dennis |
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
So has anyone heard a price yet?
I like to do my research before I call the "dealer". Makes my job easier and I find in turn their job too. From previous experience I would say 230k or better. right? Like I said any help is apreciated. M |
Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Dennis,
One last comment about steps. They are not a bad thing, they work and have been around for close to 70 years now. First introduced on the sponsons of float planes. The problem is that no one or no company has been able to design the perfect step. Every company does them differently, some have one, many have two and I have seen I think 6 on a special edition Sunsation. Granted some were very small and way forward. Had a buddy with a 2001 42 Fountain. He traded for a leter model and wanted to keep his old trailer because he had custom wheels on it. The new 42 would not fit the bunks on the Myco. Fountain had resigned the steps. They are always changing them trying for more speed and I would hope better handling also. Dock |

Re: 2006 30 Outlaw w/ 600SCI's
Guys, sorry for the slow response, we have been setting up for a in-water boat show this week. I'm not going to print in a public forum what this guy paid for his boat, Hopefully you all can understand. I will say the boat was over$200k and under $250k. We tried a set of 34p 5 blades and the boat will not spin them to max rpm, will try some 32p 5 blades next. If any of you would like to ask me any questions feel free to call, thanks for the intrest. Also thanks for the kind words about our dealership Doc.

My second boat was bought from them, and my third, fourth, and any after that probably will too, as long as Baja is producing great boats. I've also heard that the owner of this boat is a returning customer to AB, so that says a lot if you ask me... |
