Hopefully this isnt construed as Baja bashing/trolling, since I am currently in the market for a 405, or 442. Last month an employee of MaineMax drowned at Lake Powell when the boat she was a passenger in hit a large wake off of a tour boat , and the hull split in two. I havent heard confirmation on what brand of boat it is, but I have heard rumors that it was indeed a Baja. Can anyone confirm or deny the rumors and shed some light on what kind of boat it was?

It was a new 30 Outlaw, but the hull did "NOT" split in two.

The story I'm hearing is that you MUST come off plane for these tour boat wakes, and she did not. My guess, and this is just a guess based on what facts I have heard is that she stuffed the boat. If she did it is highly likely that the top deck seperated from the hull. This is common in any brand. There are pictures of a 311 Formula doing this and actually coming apart.

I have owned Baja's since 1999 and know a hundred people with them and they do not split in half.

You are welcome Boss.

Look luck with your shopping. I have always liked the 442 and there are some nice deals out there on that boat. But the 405 is growing on me fast. At first I did not know what to think about this boat, but the more I see it the more I like it.

There was a beautiful 405 running the Destin Poker Run in August and it looked GREAT on plane.

I have pictures of mine in 5 footers with the boat a couple of feet out of the water. Broke some small stuff but the hull is fine.

The $$$ really wasn't the deal..................We got the boat I wanted after the comparison and after all consideration, went with Baja! Get what you want, not just what you want to SHOW! Baja works for us. This isn't to say that I'll never own an OL or any other (except Fountain). In fact I'm looking at a nice 36' Spectre as an addition to the fleet.

But I also drive an F350 dually with a diesel...................That's my version of Mercedes !! (for now).
