whats happening?

Hey guys

been out for awhile. Still boatless, but have been busy with school and flying airplanes. man those are as addicting as boats.

Just wanted to stop by and say hi.

They have speed mods for airplanes just as boats. tons of neat toys too. heres a pic of her

Sweet !!! How long and how much money would I have to spend before I could fly that plane solo??

I was just thinking the other day about maybe changing hobbies. It would be cool to fly all over the place, seeing alot of the United states that you would never see otherwise.

BajaRunner 11-15-2007 10:29 AM

Its not cheap. The way i did it was buy a cessna 172 cheap. got my license with it then got rid of it and bought this one. insurance is about like cats when you do a big upgrade. this is a 6 seater 300hp (which is like 600hp in a boat)

8-10k would get you enough training to fly it solo.

maintanence and annuals (and gas) are another thing. i look back and my 36 was cheap.

BajaRunner 11-15-2007 10:29 AM

oh and 1st year insurance is 5k. after about 2 years of flying it drops to 2k a year. ouch.

BajaRunner 11-15-2007 10:35 AM

we planned a trip for next week. departing austin and going to elephant butte new mexico. there is striper fishing there. pretty cool to fly in to a small town (where commercial service isnt available) spend a couple of days and fly home when you want.

It flies about 165mph and will truely haul six adults.

Jason,
When you get back from N.M. please let me know what you think of the lake. We are thinking about going there to do a poker run next year. Hope you have good luck fishing!!!!
Thanks,
Jay

Your lucky your flying. It's a really nice drive from here to El Paso. Really scenic---thats why they upped the speed limit to 80:D:D

Sweet! I'm flying a 182rg. 200 mph baby!

kennyo 11-16-2007 08:38 AM

The thing I like about boats is if you run out of gas or lose an engine you coast to a stop and drink beer. A plane.....

JasonSmith 11-16-2007 08:42 AM

A small plane is the same way. The glide a long way, hell everyone I've ever seen made it all the way to the scene of the crash!

Jay,

I dont think it would be very good for a poker run. Its WAY down. I bet if it was full it would work. Kinda like travis when it gets down to 640's

Jason,
Thanks for checking it out for us. The poker run is next Sept. so I guess we'll have to see what the water level is then. Hope your fishing went well. Call one of these days and we'll get together for a few adult beverages(if you can get permission):evilb:

I brought a turbo 182RG back from LA once and the most I could get out of it was 165kts. @ 11K. I don't like oxy masks, so didn't want to go higher, and I don't like to run 'em hard, but 165kts. (189 mph) is pretty respectable, I don't care who you are.

BajaRunner 12-04-2007 04:09 PM

165knots is damn good. Ive seen over 200 knots ground speed with a hellaous tailwind. TAS is usually around 140 knots in my six. They are like a suburban, slower but will haul almost anything you can fit through the doors.

Just added a waas 430, they are worse than boats for little add-ons
