Slow in here ~ Winter projects?
Got any winter projects you are working on? I know of some stuff happening on my end & some stuff othere are planning.
Here is my list: I'm going to finish the stereo I've been working on for 2 seasons now. I'm going to install some more interior & exterior lights. Replace trailer bushings & bearings, take a look at the breaks. Install more push-pin cleats. Fix the shelves I broke at Conroe. |

They have just come out with a bunch of new LED products for weatherproof cockpit lighting and such. We've put some in the latest ATs.
Who's "they?" |
There are a number of different manufactures of "the basics."
Accon comes to mind, and some of the big parts houses like Dana, CP Performance, and the like have a lot to offer. You just have to dig around a little. In South Florida, its easy--as there are so many boats built in the locale; they have "boat builder warehouses" which are like Home Depot for boat parts. You just walk in and stroll down the isles and pick out things you like. The latest items pop up there all the time. |
put back together what was stolen in the spring and go racing again:D 569 or 666 class:evilb: heeeheeheee
|
My props are at Bblades, Bertt started on them this week
Fixed some snaps on the carpet last weekend down at PBC If the boat doesn't sell, in the Spring I need to push the down button on the remote and go boating..... |
Just a drive shower so far.
I'd like to get a trailer before spring, but been slammed with work and haven't had time to do the research. When the warranty is up, I may look into the extension box/shorty setup. Maybe take a good long look at the bottom as well. -As much trim as it takes to run good, feels like I'm fighting a hook. |
New motors-- more power this time
LED lighting in cockpit along with re-rig on all wiring. Getting rid of the crappy 16/18 ga. factory wiring. Complete detail bow to stern. And lastly mufflers to keep Johnny law off my back !!!!:D:D |

http://www.superbrightleds.com/led_prods.htm Not necessarily marine, but I have bought a bunch of stuff from them for my trucks and cars. |
Going to replace head gaskets.
Change supercharger oil. Finish up the cosmetics on my cold air induction project Send my custom made side vents off for painting. See if I can track down the annoying , small water leak it has:mad: Tear apart the uppers, and give them a good eyeballing. |
Engine refresh with cometics this time!
|
My trailer is going to get some upgraded wheels.
I am pretty happy with the boat for now. I am considering installing an intercom system for the poker runs. |
Finished the rear bolster seat.
Added electric over hydraulic brakes to the trailer. With all new bearings and seals. Adding new swim platform then waiting for warm weather. Water sanded the whole transom and buffed. (By the way I will have a swim platform off of a 01 33 Outlaw for sale Purple with one small scratch) |

So far on the list:
Buy and install GPS Replace (or add) batteries Replace one of the amps that isn't working. If it still isn't loud enough new subs in sealed boxes will be replacing the free airs. Add an aux in plug in the glove compartment so I can throw away the fm modulator for the IPOD Test a buddies labbed 26 Bravos. If that goes well I'll send mine to bblades. Add name to transom. |
It never ends. Just had last winter's new drive assemble repaired. Hoping it is a warranty issue.
|
I think I'm going to add some more power!:evilb:
|
Jason,
Empty the ice chest and you'd probably gain 4-5 mph.:evilb: Jay |
More power....you crack my chit up!!!!
You always leave us on the edge of our seat, your like our real world testing. So what is up your sleave? |
Just some more tuning on the ECMs. Gonna add some more timing & take away some fuel. Got some new propellers to try also. Need to trim up the intercooler pickups too.
|
haj jason i having atk engine builting me 540 600 hp engine in stall new gimbil ilike to get ex steering do you thing single will be enough ican t wait:
|
I think you'll be fine with a full hydraulic single ram system.
|
Well I got two BIG boxes today from Dana Marine with a LOT of bling!
I'll post some pictures when I'm finished! I wish winter would get here so I could work on the boat. This sumer time 65 degrees is forcing me to do other things! |
Can't wait to see what you are doing this time Mark.
I know what you mean about the weather. Kind of hard to believe 70 degree weather here in January. |

I wish I could afford some winter projects. Dock, The boat came equipt with the first generation side vents ( ovals) During my quest for improving airflow to the engine compartment last spring , I looked at how much surface area of the vent was actually open, and thought that there was room for improvement. I like the looks of the second generation ( triangles) but figured Baja would charge an arm and a leg for those, so, I decided to design my own. I wanted something a little different, so the wheels started turning. I spent alot of time doodling on paper, cutting out patterns, laying them on the boat to see how they look, engineering to see if the design had enough support, and if it would hold up in actual usage, and still deliver the most open space for air to flow in. Once I had a design decided on, I got some .060 aluminum, cut out a couple of blank, patterned off the original side vents, layed out the design on the blank, and cut it out, did a little sanding and finishing. I then drilled the mounting holes. I found some aluminum hexagonal shaped screen in the Mc Master-Carr catalog, it is rated at 80% opening. Cut out the screen, glued it to the frame. Ran them late summer through the rest of the year, to make shure the glue held. As of now, I have to send them off for painting. One of the prizes given away at Hawkeye's poker run last year was a free painting of your side vents or engine cover ( 496 plastic cover) from the guy that painted Hawkeye's orange, and later, the green 35 O/L's. Low and behold, I happened to win that prize :D I'll post a picture later. |

All the curved surfaces made it difficult for them to look like they belong on the boat when looking at them from certain angles. Plus, they had to be bonded on rather than screwed on. |

Pay no attention to those silver thing attached to the underside of the hatch, they were not supposed to be unveiled yet:D There still is some cosmetic work to do them, before they're considered "streetable". Do they make a difference? They are ducted to outside air, it is sealed off from engine compartment air. I put a temperature probe in the air box, right near the flame arrestor, it measured what the outside air temp was ( 77 degrees) I then put the probe in the engine compartment, 104 degrees. Here's what I did noticed while running. Before the boxes, after about 30 seconds of WOT, they would kind of fade a bit, drop about 200 rpm. After the boxes, they dont fade at all. I'll post more pics of the air boxes and the other enhancements for airflow when the cosmetics are done. |
Jaay Teee,
My hat it off to you my man. You represent all the great values of a dedicated "Baja" owner. Your boat is awesome and the upgrades demonstrate the pride you have in your boat and most importantly the ability to make it happen. FANTASTIC Dock |

FANTASTIC Dock Thanks for the kind words:D I have this problem with having to dink around with my toys.....it keeps me from getting bored with them. |
I have a transom job and 2 engine rebuilds, fresh shortblocks, adding merlin heads and single plane intakes.

JaayTeee, do you know if the stock vents are also aluminum? I am thinking about having someone blast the paint off mine and polish them so they match the rear vents I found. |

I have two new sets of vent covers for the 25 Outlaw if anyone wants them. I paid $75.00 per pair and will sell them at the same price. These are still sealed and have never been installed on a boat. |
