Baker Oil Pan and pickups
Dart Block
Crowler Crank
Manley Rods
J & E Blower Pistons
Cometic Head Gaskets
Polished Valve Covers
Crane Gold Roller Rockers
Whipple Stage II Super Chargers

540 CI
900+ Horsepower

How fast?

At least 65 MPH we hope!:D

Steel Outlawed 02-21-2008 03:56 PM

The polished valve cover should be good for at least 1 mph.:evilb:

JaayTeee 02-21-2008 05:03 PM

Dock,
what are you doing with the old power ?

JT,

I will be leaving the old engines in a long block form from oil pan to EFI intake. We plan to keep them for backup motors if possible. I have already had several people want to buy them but they will be just long blocks with the oil pan and intake if I sell them.

I'm removing the computer, bell housing, fly wheel, pulleys, etc for use on the new motors.

Jason has known about this project for a couple of months now and it has tore him up that I have not posted.

I am also thinking very serious about changing my transom assemblies to the new IMCO with the built on steering cylinders.

The engines are promised to be ready late April and we should have them in the first of May. I'm doing a lot of work right now in the bildge which should make for a nicer look.

Dock you sneeky devil you!
I am sure this was a tuff decision. Sell for newer boat with bigger pwr of keep what you got and upgrade.

You sticking with a EFI setup or going Carbs?

If should nice to see a 36OL click the century mark!!!
So what gave the itch :D

I know you will have tons of pics:cool-smiley-026:

Dock

You should be a little over 92 mph. You are doing the same setup as what I am doing, but my drive heights will make me a little slower than you.

Very interesting project you are doing. I would have never thought you would go with the big power blower motor setup.

Just wait til the first time you roll on the power especially on take off. I know you have driven other boats, but it will be special beacause it is your own and you were used to how long it took to plane out. Now it will be almost instantly up and out!!

Can't wait to hear the final speed numbers.

That is a shocker! I wouldn't have thought big HP was on your priority list. 900+ a side? That rocks!!! Looks like it will be a real solid 900+ a side too.
Congrats man that is really going to wake her up. She will fly.
I bet you'll see mid90's easily. enjoy!

JaayTeee 02-22-2008 08:36 AM

I'm betting you'll need to go to
1.36:1 ratio drives.

You can buy a lot of power for what a new boat is going for today.

I'm staying with the EFI setup. Whipple Stage II Polished.

I looked at a lot of options but the Whipple is proven, it fits and it looks very clean under the engine hatch.

Smitty 02-22-2008 09:44 AM

FYI

My boat was faster and ran better with the 1.36 ratio drives and 28" props. I don't care what all the experts say, I should have never switched to 1.50 drives !!!

I will switch back someday when I have some extra coin to blow !!

I have seen a 36 with whipples that dyno'd at 850 per side run 92 MPH on GPS.

Believe me when I say that this was a shocker for me also, as I just woke up one day and said that I was going to add Whipples. Then I decided to change heads and now it has turned into a full engine project. It all started when a buddy up in Ohio did this with his Sunsation and then Bobby Todd started pushing me very hard and I said why not you only live once.

My main concern now is outdrives and making them live. I spoke to a lot of folks down at the Miami boat show regarding drives and there are a lot of advancements coming later this year that sound promising. I have two sets of fully rebuilt XR's right now that are ready to go and I plan to be easy on the throttles.

My engine builder put it like this. "You will have an abundance of power"!

Sounds good to me.

I agree with you. We have a friend with an Outerlimits that is running triple 900 HP engines and B-Max 1.35 ratio drives and 26 pitch labbed props and he is in the upper 90's.

That may be an option I have to consider because I feel that we will fall into a bad area with props.

I will be very pleased with that speed. Some in the know tell me that I should be faster but the 36 is a big boat to move and I'm not going to count on more.

Get back to work on your floors.:Whatever:

JaayTeee 02-22-2008 10:02 AM

On XR's you change the ratio with the lower
gear set, which isn't as expensive as having
to replace the upper gear set.......they're ( the gearset) cheaper than a new set of props.

Thanks for the reply, that is what I was thinking.

I did not mean to leave it out but here is all I can tell you at this time.

"Custom Grind"

Mark Boos likes to use a custom grind cam for each application and I have turned it over to him to do what he does best.

I'll let you know as soon as I know.

Sounds like you going to have quite a fun ride for summer Dock. Is it going to be unveiled at the JPR?

Dock Holiday 03-17-2008 12:36 PM

Everything is taking shape.

Blocks honed and rotating assembly balanced and assembled.

We had to change the springs on the heads because AFR shipped them with springs for a solid lifter setup.

The Whipples are built and shipped.

I received flywheels, couplers and bell housings today.

It has turned out that we are building two 100% complete new engines and the 500EFI's will be complete backups.

If all goes well we will be running in early May ready for the Lake Hartwell Poker Run.

KDAWG 03-17-2008 03:37 PM

i think for the time being i will be keeping my engines stock 502's until the housing market and gas prices come back to reallity; could be awhile. hope all goes back together well dock.

jmeng 03-17-2008 04:33 PM

Very impressive Dock. Gonna make for one bad Baja. Can't wait to see the final results.

BajaRunner 03-17-2008 10:28 PM

firehill19 03-18-2008 07:07 AM

Dock, can't wait to see and hear the finished product. Congrats on the rebuild. Hope to catch up with ya somewhere in the U.S. within the year.

I fully understand. Figured if I did not go ahead and do this that I never would and everyone needs blowers at least once in life!

Hey Keith nice to hear from you. I hope to see you and Joyce at the Ski Dock run next month. They will not allow Jay to enter unless he has adult supervision so we are flying back out again this year to watch over him and enjoy the beautiful lake.

Make sure you and your crew are there!

It's a good thing that Tommie will be there for the adult supervision part!!!! :evilb:

We're not sure we will make it. Joyce was supposed to have a little surgery before the run but now they have put it off till the Tuesday after. So, we definitely weren't coming, but since they changed the date of her surgery, we might drive up without the boat. We can ride in the photo boat (you met Clark & Donna with 350 Chapparel at Travis) or we might just hop around to the stops by vehicle. We won't make the decision till the week before.

Dock Holiday 03-25-2008 12:50 PM

Well I have one complete new pair of Merc XR's that D I C K Tryce aka Mr. Gadgets reworked ready to go on the boat.

He also has two XZ's I shipped him that he is rebuilding for me now that will become XR's.

He called me yesterday and said I pulled the XZ's apart at the right time. They now have 180 hours on them behind 600 horsepower and the gears were starting to flake metal off.

So based on that if I get 80 hours out of the new XR's behind 900 horsepower I will be very happy!
