What speed does a 36'Outlaw run with 500hp's EFI. My payment book is getting a little thin. I think I need a new one

The May 01 issue of Powerboat had a 36 Outlaw (Outstanding Offshore Performance selection) with twin 575SCi's at 82.4 on radar (5200 rpm). Those motors are 550 hp ea.. 500 Hp's are 470 ea.. I'd guess mid 70's with the HP's. Go with the Decolite, level II and maybe you'd get a bit more?? Nice toy!

I have a 99 Outlaw with 500EFI's with extension boxes, running 23p Mirage Plus props with 1.36 gears,so far the best I can get is 72.4-72.6 on GPS,Gaffrig shows about 78.

I'll let you know soon. Mine is not broken in yet, only three hours on it. It has the 28 pitch props though. What is up with the 23 pitch on your boat?

Roger,

I would guess that the drives on your boat are 1.5:1 ratio instead of 1.36:1. That would make for the difference in the props.

The new 36 I have ordered has 1.5:1 XZ drives with 28 pitch props. The dealer tells me to expect low to mid 70's out of her.

The 575's would be nice, just to much money.

I don't know about those 28 pitch props. The 33 Outlaw in the new Powerboat Magazine has HP's and is only able to turn 28's up to 4800rpm. The author even commented that the 33 may be over propped with 28's - unlabbed at any rate.

I getting ready to have Bronson Hill set me up with some 28's that he will tune once I test them out stock. I'm hoping I can turn them. When I saw that the 33 with HP's can turn them I felt a little better. My boat with HO's has the exact power to weight ratio as a 33 with HP's

Thumbs up

Thanks for the response guys. 70MPH would be plenty fast for me. Do you think the 496 mags would push a 36 to 70mph?
Ahh, never mind I have to have the 500s. Go big or stay home right? Now if I can just talk one of you guys into a test ride on a 36 Outlaw.................????
BTW What is decolite?

The decolite is like balsa wood glassed on both sides and it saves you a couple hun pounds. Good investment! they use it for stringers instead of plywood. With the 496's your 36 would run around 68-70mph.

I have a 99 with 496's and it does a solid 70 with full crew and full tank of gas (150 gal x ~8.2 #/gal @ 1200#)
