I am new to performance boats and just bought a 1999 232 boss. It has a 7.4L mpi with 310hp. It goes 57 mph on gps. I would like to go around 70mph, what would be the best choice for upgrades to achieve this? I would like to maintain reasonable reliability.

I ahve asked the question and seen the posts. Short answer is buy a new motor and exhaust. $6-8K

The problem with your motor is the internals. You need to be working woth a mag motor to make the upgrades you are looking to do.

I wish I could remember the search criteria to tell you to look at becasue this has been talked about alot!

try things like 454 upgrade, 7.4 upgrade, 454 and youll find the more detailed answer.

Also keep in mind youll have to be pushin 500 hp to get to 70.
