don't mean to bust you bubble but...
most cats, pound for pound and horse power for horse power will outrun any vee bottom... i have been running cats for 4 year and ran vee bottom for 20 years prior to that...
i have not problem outrunning all my buddies with the same hp as me....
with that being said, vees have many more adantages than cats.... that is why i am going back.. and to a bajs no less

It is a no-brainer that a cat will out run a v.

I was always a vee guy... until i rode in my first cat, they are truly amazing... the vee's are just more family friendly and more versital. unfortunately it just takes much more hp and $$ to get them to move across the water.
out of curiosity, how is the control on the 29 over 85 mph.
chine walk? porpoising?
all the bajs's I ever owned were 70-75 mph.
