...My Albatross...
Installed the stbd main stringer a couple weekends ago, been grinding trying to clean up the old glass. Found another small section of coring (about 1 sq. ft) that had a dry laminate and allowed water to migrate through to the core, cut that out and replaced with new. Working on the bulkheads now, hope to have them in this weekend. http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...00303-2232.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...00303-2231.jpg |
Looks good! I have been meaning to call you and see what you have been up too

Still at it...adding ribs between inner and outer stringers. I added one more after this pic, for a total of four under the cockpit floor on 18" centers, with the last one at 12" to bulkhead the fuel fill hoses.

Floors are in...roughing in bulkhead to go all around the hull and support the deck.

Doubling up the balsa where the full hoop bulkhead will go. Vacuum bagged, should be ready to do the bulkhead when I wake up today.

Thanks for the comments. If I had put it back together the way it was, then I'd probably be done with it. But decided to change things around, add some seats in the cabin and an extra bulhead. All of the horizontal peices will be balsa that I vac-bagged on a table to try to keep the weight down as much as possible in the cuddy. And I think I probably spent two days getting the stringers/ribs level to keep the floor level, got it to within about 1/16th of an inch on a 6 foot straight edge so I figured that was good enough.
Also made a flange all the way around the fuel tank so I dont have to screw the floor gas tank cover into the stringers. I don't want anything getting screwed into the main stringers unless it absolutely has to. Some things I'm sure I went waaay overboard on, especially for a 20 year old boat, but I figure its a good learning experience and this probably won't be the last one I rebuild so why not. Should be a freaking tank when I'm done with it. |
Sidetracked on motor work on Sunday, fine tuned, sanded and rigged the bulkhead pieces yesterday, glassed them in tonight.
