I suppose he could go negative also. -2 lowers & box set at neutral would be a +2" gain upward in x or he could use -2" lowers with the box at -1" and net a +1" gain. Or use stock lowers & set the box at -1" and net a -1" deeper x. Or about any other combination.

It will be a winter projest as well for me. I do not want to raise the engine and repair fiberglass. I really do not have an opinion on either brand, just want the beneift of an ext box. My boat is at Wilson's Marine as we speak getting the trim sender and switched repaired and will get an estimate from Andy when I pick it up.

Do any of these come with steering as standard equipment?
You have to add the steering. Something else is if your boat doesn't have full time tails/mufflers the box has no provision for this either. As far as the benefit of a exstension box, there are no guarantees of any gain, sometimes you will loose, unless you can find someone who has the same exact hull and power as you that found a perfect set-up and achieved a gain.Where are you at in Mi,I know Andy fairly well,Smitty

Wayne

Steve(Violator) is going to be at St.Clair Run and he's running 12" IMCO with 496HO with CMI's running stock drive and running solid 70mph on gps full load. Too bad your not going to be there to check it out.

My boat is up there right now as well I'm hoping he has it done on Monday so I can pick it up.

I was only trying to help you since I have done these sets ups on my boat and others when my buddy OWNED a baja dealership a few yrs back, there have been guys who used a stelling box with the imco tork shaft, but I think theres a extra chit you have to do. that ujoint set up on stellings eats them drives well you will hear it when you put the drives in gear and out. good luck

not really cause your going 12'' out so you loose 1'' 1#= +1 #2= net 0# 3= -2 deeper, so when you add a neutral box your drive will be the same as if you lowered it 1'', simple, and to move the holes in a transom should be no more than 500 to 700 dollars . and to get a 3'' shortie you need to buy the whole drive now which sux.

I appreciate your input. I'm leaning towards IMCO boxes and -2 Shorties. I'm looking to gain ride not necessarily speed with this setup. I'm hoping not to loose speed, but improve my ride and time to get on plane.

That should get you what you're trying to achieve.

2 of my friends have older (98' and 00') 36 O/L's with Stellings boxes, and the drives aren't mounted that high
compared to mine,( guessing in the 5" range)
but they come out of the hole effortlessly,
where mine has a certain routine that has to be
followed in order to come out of the hole.
