Bingo .

This is kind of like the whining some of us were
doing right after the fountain aquisiton.

There is nothing any of us were going to do about
it, we just had to deal with it and get over it.

Uggh, this is still going on? Checkmate builds boats, its what they do. They procured a new-to-them mold and decided to add to their product line, get over it. It's not a Baja because it didn't come from NC, it came right out of Checkmate in Bucyrus and its a great looking boat. If you don't like it, don't buy it or give a call over to the factory and let them know how you feel about it, I'd be interested to know how they respond.

Regal? Rinker? I said entry level performance boats, not all pleasurecraft.

I think Formula is a great example. Go look at a Formula compared to a Baja or Checkmate and you will understand.

I really never thought anyone considered the Bajas and Checkmates as anything but entry level in the go fast market, but I am beginning to see some dont. Interesting...

Not offended, might have came across that way, just mostly curious. I'm just thinking one man's entry level boat is anothers high dollar dream boat. I've built a lot of entry level boats in my years, I've just noticed that nearly all boats are entry level for someone.

Ah, gotcha. I guess I got caught up in all the negative posts and assumed you were angry with my comments.

I see exactly what your saying. I dont think Checkmates or Bajas are entry level boats, just entry level go fast boats. So they are an definate step above the Rinkers, Bayliners, etc of the world, but below the build quality of Formulas, Donzis, etc. They are solid bang for the buck boats though, and I believe Fountains price increase ruins this for the "Bajas."

I just threw MTI and Outerlimits in, because the way Check and Baja owners are arguing you would swear they own the best made boats in the industry.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Beers on me.

By the way anyone a Nascar fan? Does anyone else feel like there wasnt even a race run this afternoon?

You want likes and dislikes? I like that the boat is still being built. I dislike the fact its being built across town, because i don't have a job building it under its old name any more!

Tristar, where exactly does Formula or Donzi exceed Baja or Checkmate in build quality? Just curious your opinion on this.

I said Donzi based on owner comments, Formula is from my own experience. Rigging, electical runs, fit and finish, build materials, components and hardware, over layout in the cockpit and cabin are all areas that I would immediately point to.

Look at how many 10 year old Formulas you see, still commanding a good dollar. Better yet, look how many people race Formulas. Does Checkmate or Baja support any of this? The only knock I have ever heard on Formulas are they are heavy.

To me, its comparing a true offshore boat to a lake boat. Again no offense is meant by this, Check and Baja offer great bang for the buck. Hell I visit these forums because I like the boats.

You are free to disagree, just my thoughts here. I dont want to offend anyone past or present that helps build these boats.

I will agree Checkmate is no off shore boat. But I would stick any Checkmate against any lake boat for quality. Its rare to ever see a stress crack in a Checkmate. And its no problem taking a 30 foot Checkmate and getting triple digits with a single engine.

Sorry to hear about that, it would be nice if everything picked up around here. Too many people without jobs in this county.
