Blower reset popping
 

Well went out in boat for 1st time this past Saturday and for some reason my port blower breaker keeps popping. Has a huge draw on system just before popping. I unhooked blower motor still pops. Very confusing how could be a dead short. Anyone have ideas? I tried a new switch as well. I'm stumped, but don't really wanna fork out hours worth of money to pay a shop that really doesn't know how these boats where put together to chase it down..

Try a continuity check on the wires, that would let you know if the wires are shorted.

As in Ohm or 12 volts to blower?

Yeah, ohms, use a multi-meter and ring out the wires from the switch back, with the blower unplugged. If it is a dead short it short it would read 0.000 zero ohms, dead short. If the wires are good you will get some reading to show an open circuit.

Blower motor and switch are definately good. Starboard blower on same switch works fine, but they are wired on seperate circuit. 2 seperate breakers. I'll ohm out the wires see where I am. Thanks for your help. I'm really trying to avoid running new wires, but might be my only option unless I can find the short.

Just wondering if you you checked out the breaker? It maybe faulty. Hope it works out for you.

Probably the blower motor is going bad. Either from a seized bearing or the motor windings are failed/close to failing.
Replace the blower or just use the one. I know the blowers on my boat are a M-F'er to get to. Yours can't be that much better.

I've had these blowers seize up and melt the plastic before.

Another thing you could try, would be to remove, clean and re-plug the main harness plug on the engines.
If I recall, power for the blowers runs through that plug. Could be a short in the plug.
