Sounds like you are set up correctly to me. My 24' boat ran 55 with 330 HP & 21pitch at 4700 RPM. If you have not done a tune up, change the cap, rotor, wires, plugs. You can advance your timing from 8 deg at idle to 12. That will give you 36 deg total timing, assuming you have the 24 degree modual. Be sure you have good gas.

isnt a 260 actually a 26ft boat? The 272 is only a 25ft boat with a 2' integrated platform?
Either way, right about the same speed. The run was awesome, definitely was catching some good air.... I will be back next year. You coming around for the Raft off or cumberland? Seams like it should be faster but the 330 just dont have the grunt like a mag does. Good motor never had any problems with it ran like a champ. Just not the fastest. Raft off and Cumberland are hopefuls. We just have to see how things shake out. |

I have a 1994 Baja 272 equipped with a 330hp merc 454, bravo one drive and 21p mirage prop.
Trimmed significantly with almost no fuel, and by myself on glass water I get the speedo to show 56, handheld gps says 53/54, this is @4600rpm.... I posted in the general section, and Air Time seemed to think this boat was running pretty slow. I am considering some power upgrades this winter. Is this running slow, or am I right around what it should run. Thanks in advance! |

Scott my 272 with 502Mag would run 67 on GPS 24p Bravo labbed. Problem with the 454MPI is the internals and peanut port heads. Has good foundation, but needs new internals to build power.

51.8 MPH
Using a 15% slip factor which is average for a Baja. http://www.rbbi.com/folders/prop/propcalc.htm |
Would a 23P work on my setup? Or am I propped the best I can be right now? Maybe add a Mirage Plus in place of the standard mirage?
Pros, cons? |
Scott see if you can scrounge up a cheap 22p Bravo. I liked the 4 blade for getting out of the hole and to me felt more hooked up in the water. You'll get varied opinions on this, but I think you'll gain a few mph with it. Might have to lab it though.
