Anyone with a 30 OL install Raylar BCK103 kits on your engines?

Just curious what your gains were over the stock 496 HO's

boat4fun 07-29-2009 01:14 PM

Hope this helps.....

We have 2 "new" similar 2010 Sunsations 32'. One has the stock Merc 496 Mag HO's, and the other has 496's with the Raylar 525 kits. The stock HO boat runs 86.7 mph - top speed and the Raylar boat runs 91.6 - top speed. The mid range is much stronger (most impressive difference) on the Raylar boat, and the low end is very similar to one another.

I would guestimate if you were to do this kit on a (stock set up) Baja 30' O/L, you would pick up (an honest) 4 MPH. The Baja's hull design will take a little more hp's to gain the speeds, over some other stepped hull designs - Don't take me wrong, as I don't mean this as a negative thing.

We've set up a-lot of 30' O/L's, with the proper set up and some minor changes, we've seen (an honest) 80+ MPH speeds out of that boat with HO's. Therefore if you were to decide on the Raylars and do some minor changes, I could see your boat capable of running in the mid 80 MPH's.

I'm interested in hearing what you decide.

MillerLite88 07-29-2009 03:12 PM

What was the proper set up and minor changes that you did to the stock 30OL?

thanks,
Shoe

BrettM 07-29-2009 03:27 PM

Prop changes (high pitch, lab finished) , X dimension, (drive height) delete cabin options and weight from boat. This is what we have done to get a 30 to an honest 80.

Boat 4 fun might have more tweaks:drink:

boat4fun 07-29-2009 04:59 PM

Straight from Baja the "typical" 30' O/L w/ HO's runs "around" 75 / 76 MPH (pending options / extras / conditions / sea level / etc)

Inward Prop Rotation / 28" Lab Finished Props / PCM's (re-calibrate) / Bottom (straight edge / fix all dings - nicks - scuffs - high / low spots - sharpen all edges) / Thru-Hull Exhaust (remove muffler systems) / Additional Air Intakes (into engine compartment)

- Hook up scan tool > Delete all previous codes / make certain throttles are opening 100%.

- Go through drives and make certain cambered correctly. Baja usually had the drives towed in from the factory. We liked to set them at straight, or (towed out a hair - bringing the props closer together), this way if flex occurs, it brings back to straight.

With everything done (correctly), is "usually" good for 2-3 MPH.

Also, we "typically" had our X dimensions raised from the factory (pending the customers wants & where the boat was being used). This was "usually" good for 1 MPH over stock.

* This isn't the perfect set up for everyone, nor is it going to be the fastest set up in every area, this is good for top speeds, on smooth to 2' choppy conditions, in our specific area / conditions.

kr1276 07-29-2009 09:04 PM

200 horsepower improvement and only gained 4mph. Were the ecm's reprogrammed or stock?

A guy I know said a guy he knows had a buddy!! WTF

Somebody is dishing out bad info here. The 30ft. Outlaws that have done Raylar 525 kits have seen everywhere from 7-10mph increase when everything on the props and bottoms are right.
Call me and I give you the phone numbers of 30ft Baja owners with real world results. Funny how there are all these all of a sudden experts on this site with all our results?? Some Baja hulls depending on year and models did have some pretty nasty hooks on the bottom and believe me when I say until you have a good bottom you can throw big horsepower at any hull and end up with lousey results. As most know in performance boating there are a lot of factors beyond power that determine boat speed, performance and handling!!

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

I agree. I am blue printing the bottom of mine this winter and taking the hook out.

bmtbandit 07-31-2009 08:06 AM

Any idea what kind of numbers could be attained with a Baja 405?

Ray, I didn't mean anything bad by my information. I'm just saying it they way I "personally" see it. I think 4-5 MPH "real speed" incresse is a-lot. I also said it was a guesstimate, as I have not done a 30' O/L with your motors.

I am simpily going off of our boat we have in stock right now, which I had your motors installed - 2010 Sunsation - 32' w/ Twin Raylar 525's. We just sold an identical boat w/ HO's, and there is about 5 MPH difference between the 2 boats.

Also, I am extremly happy with my choice of Raylar motors, a 32' Boat that runs above 90 MPH is very impressive!!

Sorry if that came across badly. This is why I don't like to post anything, to many variables.

Here's the 2 boats I'm refering too.

I would never post something to hurt anyone on here (or myself for that matter). I have a new boat to sell, with Raylar motors in it.

This would certainly make for one of the fastest Baja 30' O/L's in it's class!! We've done a 30' O/L w/ twin Mercury 525's that runs 87.8 MPH. So, if you were to do all of the above and add some CMI Headers, you'd be looking at a possible 90MPH boat. I'd love to hear what it does??

XT-Innovator 08-02-2009 11:07 PM

Ray,

I got to run the Orange 32 XRT above, and it was the first boat that I ever had the chance to test your engines....I was very impressed with them, and the power that they produced. Granted I am partial to the Baja product line after working there for 24 years, and designing the 30ol hull, so I do understand where you are coming from. I was also impressed with the fit, & finish on the Sunsation product, and the paint job from Kustom Kolors was second to none.

XT:drink:

That is one sweet looking Sunsation I will say...Hopefully I'll get to see it in person before it sells.

That's really good. Did you put new exhaust on? I'm just curious, I was considering Raylars. I ended up with
Merc 525's instead.

boat4fun 08-03-2009 03:46 PM

Wow, that's great!! You have to be extremely pleased with your gain(s). The 35 O/L with HO's will "typically" run 71-73 MPH straight from Baja. So your 35 O/L should be running in the range of 81-83 MPH??

We are extremely pleased with our Raylars, but I'm now thinking we need to look and see why we're not getting that same increase (10 mph). Honestly, I was thinking that this (5 MPH) was all the more I would gain with this particular set up. I am not complaining, this boat runs excellent, anything more (MPH) is a gift!!!

w/ HO's - 30 Lab Props - 5100 RPM's = 86+ MPH
w/ Raylar's - 32" Lab Props - 5300 RPM's = 91+ MPH

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!!

* Note - our boat(s) were not tested on the same day, so there is a possible variance (same location / fuel / weight).

needle farther than anybody else could;):D

I'd like to see a 35 with HO's turn 30's 5100. I guess up on the lift it would.

Pretty sure he's talking about a 32 Sunsation

ahha.

If a 35 Outlaw would run like that with stock HOs it would be my next boat.... :coolcowboy:

Here's some pics of Raylar Motors (these are not the ones in our boat). One of them showing with the CMI Headers (we do not have CMI's on our boat). I'm sure there would be some additional speeds there.

Those look great! Are there any replacement CMI's for a 30 OL with 496 HO's?

Looking for something that will mate up with my stock exhaust tip location.

sonic69 08-04-2009 06:35 PM

CMI just came out with the ones that will match up. Lots of articles on them.

Buy me a set too Jerry........you'll already be getting 2 one more isn't going to kill ya :evilb:

boat4fun 08-05-2009 02:09 PM

CMI makes a kit for the 496 HO, and they will line right up in your boat, you just need to give (who ever you decide to order them from) your dimensions.

We installed some CMI's on a 2008 Baja 30' O/L, very easy / clean kit. They look great, gained some MPH, and had much better throttle response!! You can keep your silent choice / captains call (if you have it).

Why, did the factory exhaust get dry rot from sitting in the driveway? :party-smiley-004:

Which 30 Outlaw is yours? Have seen a couple around here recently.

Around Belle River and Stephensville. Unlike Josh, i use my boat every weekend :evilb:

JasonSmith 08-05-2009 05:58 PM

I know a man here in DFW that has a 33 with the Raylar package on his motors. His 33 runs 80+ all day long. Very nice package.
Doug's Raylar motors runs a little too rich for my taste, ubt I think that could be easily cured.

Ah, you've been hanging out a the spunky monkey. :D Used to go down there a bunch when I was married to my ex. Hardley any performance boats back then, just a couple of 21' Baja's.

verbi69 08-06-2009 03:34 PM

My Raylar equiped 28 Powerquest Silencer picked up some serious performance both in acceleration, mid cruise punch and top end.
My boat previously was a 65 mph boat on the good days....
Now with the Raylar 103, this past weekend we saw 72 mph and a best of 73.9 mph all numbers by GPS
The waters were too rough to go and try an all out run again to verify if the 73.9 was luck or not.
I am running the same 26 labbed 4 blade as before except with some additional BBlades tweeking...
These Raylars are everything that the package claims to be and then some....
Ray you build great stuff....thank you!!

Yep, Spunky Monkey, Mosquito Bar, Gros Marina. You guys need to plan a trip down here. Maybe we can even get Josh to pull his boat out the drive way LOL!
