Is "Baja by Fountain" Done Already?
This isnt a Reggie bashing thread.
This isnt a speculation thread. This isnt a thread for Fountain owners to come to Reggies rescue. This is just a simple question.............Is Fountain done building Bajas? We havent heard anything about this subject in a long time. The same few Bajas By Fountain are still for sale in the classifieds, and all Baja clothing has been marked down already. Will the stepped 40 Outlaw we saw spy photos of happen? |
What did they say when you called them?
|
Curious myself. I was on the baja website last night and the biggest boat they have is the 35OL. The 40 OL is gone, and so are all the sunsport/cruiser boats they just introduced.
|
You know that is funny. I was on Fountain website the other day and there is no mention or links to the Baja website. The only thing I found was left over merchandise. Wouldn't you think they would do a little more advertising for Baja on their website?
|
Does It Really Matter?
P.S. Tell Connie to have the beer COLD weekend after next! |
Not to be sarcastic, just because I useally am.... but the real question is ANYONE building boats?
Baja, Fountain, 4Winns, Larson, etc??? Anyone? Untill the market picks up and people start to buy boats instead of just bashing everydeal that is out there, I think ALL boating mfgrs are "Done". Only the strong will survive, the rest will most likely be swallowed up. Wish I could get ahold of a few spacific molds.... I think it would be fun, certainly not profitable, but fun... |
I hope it is not done. I hope the 40 comes to life. I hope I can afford to get one.
I wish Reggie would just admit he is a love child of Elvis & a midget whore. |

I still wish they didn't kill the smaller lake boats. Now all I seem to look at are west coast hot rods. |

Both custom setups and production boats. A buddy of mine just picked up his 28ft Heat with a 700sci. They just sold a new 29 with a 600sci. Another buddy of mine just had a custom 27ft Thor cat built. Tim at Oregon Custom Marine has sold several production boats in the last few months. Some off his showroom, and some out of the factory in Havasu. Chris |
Although there is no link in the current official page of Baja Marine, for any of the Baja's below, the pages and their respective links are still active. Enjoy........

I talked with Wyatt Fountain yesterday. They are still building boats special order. There are a few Fountains coming down the line a couple Baja's as well.
As Bajaolic stated not many builders are building. Even the mass producers are slow at best. The Sun sport series is gone. The 40 T/S is still a work in progress, as of now the 35 is the largest current model. Sales are slow and banks are making it hard on the dealer side as well as the retail side! Someone want to buy some of my inventory I will re-stock with 2010 Baja by Fountains! |
Thanks Brett, I was hoping you would chime in here. It was mostly out of curiosity because it doesnt effect me either way. It just seemed to be the hot topic a year ago and now we hear nothing.
Any news on the 40 Outlaw or new projects? |

Will it look like this ?;) http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o30137-en.html |
I agree, my first boat, of which is my current boat, is a 20 Outlaw. I am more then pleased with the boat, and when the time comes, I will upgrade to a 25 or 26. I'm definitely going to stay with the Baja family because for the price, looks, power and overall satisfaction, you can't beat em. I get comments everywhere I go on the boat. I just hope Fountain keeps that tradition with Baja.

Our first Baja was also a 20' Outlaw
I drove all the way to OK for it :) smiled all the way back to Milwaukee! (That was our second boat right after a 21' 460 BBF Jet Boat.) Now we're in a 208 Islander and have loved both of them. Unfortunately now that Fountain bought them the smallest open bow they make is the rather big 24' which is almost too big for the boating we do. I actually may be looking at a Nordic when we move into a newer boat. |
C'mon It'll be a 40 Outlaw with the modified beak and integral platform !!!:grinser010:

and there was about a 1' gap between the rub rail of the hull and the top cap, to represent the same height freeboard the 40 O/L has, the beak was still there though, otherwise it wouldnt match up at the end. Looked kind of odd though......kind of like a fat kid on a skate board.....hard to visualize. |

From the pic's I saw, the swim platform was lopped off and there was about a 1' gap between the rub rail of the hull and the top cap, to represent the same height freeboard the 40 O/L has, the beak was still there though, otherwise it wouldnt match up at the end. It should be against the law to put a beak on a Baja! http://www.islandpirates.net/forum/i...lies/Rules.gif |

Rumor has it that the Faja Stepped 40 OL will be built.
|
I was working at Fountain until this past fall, and they had not built any Baja's since early spring. I have been told none have been started since. At this point i don't believe many were ever retail sold. They are beefy but costly in comparison to what they were at Baja in Bucyrus, they may also run quicker but have a super high X to get there as well. Not to knock Reggie, he can build a boat that runs fast and is strong, but making it inexpensive to the general public is not fountains strong point.

Chris Grueber I know Reggie did not build those Baja's by himself, so how many good people did he loose from the Bankruptcy other than Pete, and yourself? Dave |
they are building baja's. I have a 2010 35 outlaw. I took delivery on it in December. This is my third baja and by far the nicest one yet.
|
Gunner, good for you on getting a boat. I am not saying that the new boat are not strong and fast just simply saying that before Baja in ohio was shut down we still had orders and many dealers. Since the change it is completely different. I left just as reggie was filing bankruptcy and i was on of the last few people who were laid off. I was actually building fountains for a month of so with several other engineers most of whom were salaried. Baja lost alot of good people during these times and so did fountain. Fountain has a good group of talented hourly people who put the heart and soul in to building these boats.

Hey guys...I spoke to a rep at fountain recently and was told a horrifying piece of info. I inquired about the 302 boss and the 342 as I wanted a go fast with a windshield. He told me that fountain did not take/purchase those molds when the acquired baja...so yes my next question...where did there go? Most likely destroyed is what he advised me....ooof!!! What a shamefull waste if this is the case! A 342 with a pair of 525s/600s/700s would be such a cool boat...too bad...
In a word....BUMMER |
