a stock 454 motor rev limiter is set 4350, by mercury, that is a stock 454 motor is 4650 for mag motors those are carbed motors, 1995 times , not mpi ,or efi, 502 mag efi are 4950 stock,

I'm running all msd stuff. I talked to a guy with a 24 OL but a few years older and his done the same thing. With the prop I have now I couldn't drive through it. It was unexpected and almost tossed me out.

Rebuild gimbal to get rid of all slop as mentioned and then install FULL to the helm hyfraulic steering. I installed twin ram external on my 272 when it had 650-700 hp and ran in the mid to high 70's,it still chinewalked bad,. Went full to the helm and it has virtually NO chinewalk. As far as a prop you won't turn a 34 pitch in this lifetime unless your making 1200 hp. I ran a 26 pitch prop when my boat ran mid 70's, a28 pitch when it ran high 70's to low 80's,a 30 pitch labbed to run mid 80's, the 30 pitch labbed turning 5600 to run high 80's,the 30 pitch turning 6200 to run mid 90's and a 32 pitch labbed to run around 98-99 mph. You will probably need a 28 pitch to start, lab it if your rpm's aren't high enough and you should see high 70's to low 80's,Smitty

Things just dont add up, lets say it was a mag cam stock before build up so 365 hp plus blower 100 hp that makes 465 . lets make it 500 hp . do the math you should be able to run that prop if you can get it to plain off to 70 or better, the problem it getting to 5000 rpm or better is there rev limiter that is stopping you, can you rev it over 4300 at idle for i second or two just see if it will do it, you can always try a differnt prop , but the rpms is the problem . you have the power to spin 30 plus blade . might not be the best top end blade but you should see over 4300 rpms . rember all tachs , lie. a stock mercriuiser rev limiter is 4250 or 4350 on a mag motor. put smaller blade on it and spin it up and see if it hits a rev limiter

. and with a small blower I hope it makes 650hp min.

How do I get my boat to stop chine walking at 60-65 MPH? I have a 509 with a blower and a bravo upper with a Imco lower. The prop need to be lower pitch sicne the place I bought it from just threw on a 34P. I think it should have a 26 or 28P. Let me know what you guys think. This is my first fast boat.

Well the chine walk is on the back burner for now. Found water in the oil and trying to chase down where its coming from. Pressure tested oil cooler and its fine. Took of the top half of the stainless marine manifolds and no water in there and its still sooted up black. Oil in vavle covers look like white grease. Does anyone think it might be sucking in water at a low idle. Sound like a pulling tractor a low idle very rough idle below 1100 RPM's.
