It does take alot of horsepower to move these baja's. I know from personal experience as well as others here like Dock.
I think you should see at least 82. Watch out for chine walk.

my 24 ol had a lot of different hp in it last upgrade was to my 650hp motor carb change and a 2'' shortie drive gave me a speed of 82.3gps in 1 to 2 footers mostly 2s
there was more because I was maxed out at 6000rpm with a 26b1 that was balanced. with a 28 I feel a few more mph were there. it chinewalked a lot over 76 you had to saw the steering wheel back and forth. I had 380 kplanes and add on hyd steering at the time, with full 90% of the chinewalk would of been gone. the boat handled much better with the shortie going over wakes and bigger waves. I all most put a 572 blower motor in it, but theres to much cutting and moving bulkheads, so its for sale minus most of the stuff. I am putting the konrad ace drive and 572 in a 28 SABER hull I am buying, maybe I will put 28ol
. and if I don't sell the baja I will do the work I was going to do and add a blower to the 650 motor.
