Well here is how the burnt Baja Aero bolsters turned out. The seats turned-out looking great, but I think we got stuck with a $550.00 bad check for the down payment. Why do banks take so long to tell you about a bad check? The customer will not call me back, or answer emails from the last two weeks.

Man, XT that sux. Do y'all have "telecheck" there or? I know we have gotten screwed a few times here at the dealership but we'll just put a mechanics lean on something and go "repo" it :drink: Y'all do such awesome work too! I wish I lived closer North sometimes so I could drop my 29 by to y'all to get some stuff done to it. But after making the 44 hr round trip treck to MI and back to TX last weekend I think it will be a while before I get up that way again.

I always hope for the best, maybe he's just waiting for an insurance check. Hopefully you have the seats still.
I am not suggesting that everyone harass him BUTTTTT.. Here is some info: Dan Krupiak Krupiak Plumbing & Heating 6864 Kelly Ann NE Albuquerque NM. 87109 (505) 828-2222 work (505) 304-5629 cell [email protected] If anyone on here boats with him...forget the fendors. :drink: |
I have an idea.....if his bank is not local, find a trusted member that has the same bank branch near them.....send that member the check and have them go to the issuing bank with that check trying to cash it. Maybe eventually it will have enough funds to get your money.
I had a lawyer follow a payroll account for someone that owed my company money years ago and emptied the account in the hours between a deposit was made and all the employees got off work to cash their checks....bet they were pissed when all their checks bounced!!! |

Hey, if any OSO member lives close to his address, please PM me.
I tried to add the amount to his credit card number, but still get "declined" every time. I even googled the local law, and send a "text" claiming that I was in contact with them to stir him a little, but no luck. I don't see how a guy like this stays self employed? I bet I can name a few OSO members/customers that might have a little fun with his cell number???? :party-smiley-004: |
As Hoss said file a lean, repo the boat.
|
I would draw it on his own bank and force the transaction. When landscaping I used to always get bum checks, and the bank gives me the option to force it through even if there is no funds available, then he is burned at his bank with the overdraft fees and the negative balance! If thats an option.
|
Thats F'ed up. I know so people that will have some good fun with these numbers.

8. The October 23, 1997 check to the State Corporation
Commission was returned for insufficient funds. According to that bankruptcy report he has a history of doing this... This is pathetic. Doesn't he realize he's affecting someones business?! Just an inconsiderate prick. From what I've seen on the forums y'all do great work, and if I was closer I'd have my reupholster work done by you. AND pay top dollar, and there may be an ice chest full of cold beer when I drop it off! Seems to me like this guy lives above his means and doesn't care who he screws over...sad we live in a world like that. |
Hey Dave, I know these guys in the waste management business [wink, wink] that really like to have fun with guys like this. I'll see if they have any affiliates down there.

I'm off work right now. I've got nothing but time.

Call the bank the check is drawn on and ask to speak to whomever handles the account. If he or she is a decent person they may at least tell you if the account is active and if he makes deposits to the account. Banks aren't supposed to give info out but you'd be surprised how they will help when it's a dead beat and all you're trying to do is get paid. High Desert State Bank is less than $100 mil in deposits so it's a pretty small bank community bank, they are the easiest to work with, rather than say a Wells Fargo.
You can also see if you can send the check to them for collection, if they do it, they will hit his account for the amount the next time they get a deposit. Also a "trick" we used to use if the there isn't enough in the account but it's close, say $50 or $75 short, we took cash with us to the bank, deposited it in the account we were collecting on to get it to the amount of the NSF check, then the bank gives us back the amount of the NSF check. So we got our money bank and also collected most of the NSF, the rest we lost but getting $500 of $550 back is better than nothing. If you do this make sure you get an officer of the bank involved ahead of time so they know what you are doing, I've never had them turn me down but I always got them on board first. My guess he never uses the account, although the check is marked NSF and not Closed so there is a chance. Since the check has been presented twice really the only way to collect it is to present the check at the bank it is drawn on, your bank will not send it through again. Unless you dillegent and probably very lucky, or get someone to go "collect" or repo your seatsfor you, sorry to say you probably will get to claim it as bad debt on your taxes this year. If you do and you have his SSN make sure you turn in a 1099c for him, which is a debt forgivness form to the IRS, Maybe Obama can collect some of it. |
Hey XT, I'm looking for some purple carpet that Baja used in the the early 2000 years. Any idea where I can pick some up?

I was hoping to cover some subwoofer boxes but i guess I'll have to use black.

Contact the city of albuquerque along with the state
and find out if he is licensed as a plumber or whatever it is he does. File a general complaint with them about him failing to pay his bill and see if that helps..
You could always try calling the IRS and leaving a friendly message alluding that he works under the table and that he's not declaring all of his income. Make sure to tell them about the cash deal and the fact he owns a high performance boat. Also remind them that he has declared bankruptcy a few times. File a mechanics lein if you can.. |
Back to business on this thread, NEW pictures coming tomorrow! Hint: 33 Outlaw!

Ok, I was waiting on Dave to post some before pictures, but Im gonna skip to the After. This can be a part of the Guess Who's Boat Game.
I swear I felt like I was looking at a brand new boat. |
In the Beginning

Well, I was busy with everyone wanting their boats before Memorial Day.
This 1998 33 Outlaw had less than 200 hrs. on it and was in better that average for the year, but it did have a soft spot in the floor that Lakeway Boat Repair fixed, and the exhaust had rotted the transom a little that he also replaced. All rigging was done by Adam, including all new Livorsi Monster gauges, & wiring. The complete cockpit interior was replaced by XT-Innovations, and the original (straight) rear bench was upgraded to the "Triple Bolster Seating" in the process. The older silver vinyl was upgraded to the Carbon Fiber Silver for a little more modern look also. All the "yellowed" plastic pieces in the cockpit was either replaced, or covered with bright vinyl (side storage) to make the boat look brand new as TEAMBAJA stated. Here are some photos of what it started out like: Watch for this boat in the Toledo/Lake Erie Islands this summer. XT |
Another great job guys.

Im thinking you will be seeing my boat this winter!

There was some nice custom paintwork on the dash panels too.

Windscreen Repair
5 Attachment(s)
Well I think I have the process down pretty good now on repairing Baja windscreens, but it still took around 8 hrs. to do right.
First thing is to mask off the paint line and da the old paint off. You can use thinner for smaller areas, and along the masking tape. Be real careful when buffing both the front and back sides above the mounting surface, and paint with a matching white paint that bonds to plastic. The sanding also helps the paint to bond, and gets rid of the deep scratches from dirt that got behind the windscreen. The new package of mounting hardware was just icing on the cake! XT |

A big issue with the customer was the cockpit plastic items that had "yellowed" in the Hot Texas sun. We replaced stereo enclosures, and grab handle backs on the bolsters ect, but the side storage tubs are glassed in place, so we created a matching vinyl sew insert that is velcrowed into place. It really surprized everyone what a difference that made, and the photos don't do it justice. I just need to get him a set of the Baja netting.
The boat also came to him without any of the original Baja decals, so we ordered custom solid Red decals from the original vendor, but IMO I liked the (Red) better that the stock Silver decals that had at one time. XT  |
X T it really looks good , I like the red decals I guess
Ill have to spend more money with you. Rick |
Outlaw Motorlid
4 Attachment(s)
Well I knew it was just a matter of time before someone wanted the name "Outlaw" done on there Baja motorlid. Here it is, and the first one is going to Scott Rowse and his 33ol in Lake Saint Clair MI. Since we have the Baja patterns, he was able to arrive in Bucyrus on Tuesday at 2:30 PM with his motorlid, and rear bench in the back of his truck, and we had him back on the road WITH his new interior at 11:00 AM Wednesday.

Once again Dave sweet job.

Dave,
What's the secret to getting the vinyl smooth on the inside corners of the engine hatch cover? I put my cover on and everything fits great but I have a few annoying wrinkles in the corners...not smooth like the pics above. Joe |

Nope, I sent the seats out after talking to him on the phone, and running his credit card for the balance of the bolsters. I agreed to just cash the check that I was holding to get the initial parts needed to get the job going. I guess that I have gotten use to customers being so happy with our work that many times they pay more than we ask for? We have received $100.00 tips and they said the steaks were on them a few times! I have a feeling this guy is not your typical "Baja" owner, and the fire bomb that caused the problem in the first place was from someone else that had a issue with him in the past. Looking back now, I should have been more concerned I guess? Even when he sent me the rear grab handles that were only partly cleaned, I had paid to have them polished perfectly before installing for NO added cost to him! I know he is getting my calls, because the first day that he found us, I had no less that 10 calls from him in one day. I even get to pay my bank a $20.00 charge for the bouncer, thats $570.00 total loss for doing a great job!

Quick question...and actually after looking at a few of your pics...it may be somewhat ridiculous to ask, but I think I'm going to have my sun pad redone on my Boss 275....it doesn't have the raised head rests on it, but could those be installed when having the sun pad redone..of course a Baja type logo arrangement looks to be in order as well. Oh...those pics are awesome...great work.

Does the motorlid from the 25 OL fit on the 29 or was that one custom made? I want those on my 29. The question is not ridiculous. I´ve calculated that the chans of getting laid increases with up to 0,2% with raised head rests on the motorlid. /The Swede. |

We just did a "Baja" script logo for a 232 Islander a couple weeks ago. She contacted us with the colors and what she wanted, and we had everything cut/sewn when she arrived with her old motorlid. We tore it down completely, added prolite to replace all the plywood, and re-trimmed it while she waited a little over (2) hours. XT |

Ok, Joe I reviewed the photos you sent me and I will try and explain the how-to's as best that I can. As with anything there are little tricks to the trade, and it appears to us that "streacher" behind the headrest foam was not stapled correctly to begin with? The first process is to staple the loose streacher board to the streacher starting in the center, and going outward. The edge of the streacher should line-up to t-nut holes on the opposite side of the t-nuts. The forward foam section can then be glued to the fiberglass tray, and then you start the cover install at the front. Flip the streacher board into place and install the t-nut bolts in the tray bottom side. Use a fine plastic film to help the cover slide over the foam better, and it will also keep moisture out of the foam. Then glue the rear foam in place and pull the rest of the cover over all. There is extra "boxing" on all edges, so pull like crazy till your fingers hurt, and all the winkles are gone! Trim the excess vinyl, and then staple the "Hidem" on the inside to complete.
Like I said, it is difficult for me to explain, but I hope this helps. XT I did almost everything you mentioned except I mounted the stretcher board first and then stapled the stretcher to it. I didn't glue the foam in place or use plastic either..both very good ideas. Are you saying that the stretcher fabric should wrap around the stretcher board so that it is sandwiched between the hatch and stretcher board and then stapled and bolted? Good new/Bad new is when I remounted the hatch a couple hinge bolts just spun free so I guess I have some rot in the mounting blocks. This means the cover needs to be removed anyway. Providing I can ship this thing to you could you provide me with some pricing to have the hinge mounting pads fixed and the cover re-installed correctly? Are you planning any trips to Atlantic City soon? : ) Thanks, Joe |
