XT and old baja guys I have a problem
We were out running today for the first time this season and both engines die at the exact same time. We have drive and tab power and cabin dc power, but no power anywhere else. I did have to replace the starter fuse on the satrboard engine this winter. If it blew is there anyway it could make the one on the port engine blow also? There is no power on the dash, or any of the switches on the dash. Could the starboard engine control power to both engines?
Can you give me a idea of how the battery switches are wired? Does one switch supply both engines ignition? Do you happen to have any schmatics of the wiring? |
Dont know if your 01 has it but my 03 has a relay
for each battery on the back side under the back seat, it has a red reset button on it. On that relay when it trips theres a small plastic arm that drops down and it cuts all the power, to reset it move that arm back to the 3 o clock position. Hope that helps the problem. |

Look at it from the front that arm should be below the red button in the middle, if its tripped it will straight pointing down
at 6 o clock. If Its the same as mine and its not tripped by pressing that button will trip it. |

Shouldn't be able to blow both fuseable links on the starter. If I remember correctly you helped me on my 272 when this happened. Same issues as your having now. I have 3 switches under my rear bench that control power to trim pumps, tabs, and engines they are just rocker switches, but are breakers if these blow I don't have any power to these things. I've had a issue with them blowing lately and don't know why. Just reset and you have power.

Did you ever find the problem ?
|
Not yet. I got the hatch open last night by short wiring it. But I've been out of town all week on business. I hope to work on it this weekend.

I straight wired the hatch to get it up. There is a circuit breaker on each engine was tripped. I now have both engines where they will start. Now I just have to find out what made them trip. I'm going to replace the battery switch first. That is one of the common links between the engines. The starboard switch runs both ignitions, so if the switch has a bad contact or something that could have tripped the breakers.
