ignition timing 98 7.4 mfi

i have a 98 7.4 mfi 310 hp and i need to know what the timing should be set at and is there anything you need to disconnect like when you set the timing in the trucks thanks Ed

Ed I'm guessing the advance is controlled in the ECU so basically there's no advance wires to unhook...Why do you think your timing is off? Just curious cause unless the distributor was loosened up you shouldn't be having a timing issue.

i had some major spark knock on saturday then it started running like **** put it on the trailer and took it home pulled the plugs and 5 were fouled out real bad and 3 had the center electrode wasted i looked online with my engine number and it says there is a special procedure to setting timing and i remember from working on cars and trucks with this distributor there was a plug you had to disconnect to disable the pcm from trying to advance or retard the timing while setting it so i am going to replace the distributor and plugs and try again this weekend

You need to short together pin A and pin B of the datalink connector, this put it into service mode.
