This is a good application to use toluene in. It's seems to work great for cleaning out old gunk and reviving old fuel. Can't you drive your vehicle out to it on "E" and fill it up with the old boat gas?

I would add 20% toluene to what you have in the tank and fill with 93 octane.

I already went through a couple of years back. The worst thing you can do for a 496 engine is run higher octane in it. It will make the soot much worse. Just get as much of the old gas out as you can and fill it with a good quality low octane fuel. I never get fuel at gas docks.
Most have a little water mixed in. Go to a gas station and fill it there with 89 or 90 octane.
Also, My mechanic said to dump in a bottle of Mercury Quickleen engine treatment every couple of tanks. Will help keep the fuel system clean.

I have had some good success with Sea Foam helping with the soot.
