I'm thinking about replacing the wood bottom/frame on the back seat of my 272 as it is starting to rot. The vinyl is in excellent shape just seems that someone didn't seal the wood or used non green board when the vinyl was redone. Has anyone undertaken this project themselves?

I just built a whole new back seat for my 280 last year. The original was a one piece fiberglass unit. Was a real PIA to get in and out of the boat. I made the new unit 2 piece so it was easier to get out of the way. Plus I made that bottom section into a nice sub enclosure.

Try a local private lumber yard. They can order 4'x 8' in 1/2" or 3/4" thick plastic. I picked up two sheets for the new cockpit area a couple of years ago. Works great. Staples, cuts, just works like wood but will never rot. Cost just under a hundred bucks a sheet. I used the 1/2" , it's stronger than the wood, and is white all the way through so it hides the scratches. Cleans-up easy too. Just a thought

That's what I was thinking... I have to have to replace wood every couple of years. I want to do it and do it right the first time. Do you remember the brand or name of the plastic?

it's just PVC board, The lumber mill i used is out of business so had to check around. there are some other boards out there that will work also, but the PVC is the best all around to use. Good luck and i'll be looking this fall to redue the cabin.
