I do mine, as well as my friends too.

You just need to have the right tools, manual and a basic
understanding on how it works.

There's preloads and backlashes that need to be set.

If only mercury could make a decent quality XR upper gearset
I wouldn't be so familiar with their inner workings

Matt and Doug at PBB are awesome. Bailed me out last year. Saved my vacation.

The first one locked up the upper and the motor. Thought I had bigger problems pulled drive and motor fired up! Breath easy again.
Second blew the top cap off, I mean gone.
I will call and see what i can find out.
As for cost still waiting on the bill. Sure its not gonna be pretty.

I am beginning to think the Stelling boxs are my problem. Have had SEVERAL drive problems this year.

Crappy XR upper gearset are probably more of it.

Bills boat ( the boat we brought to grand) has went
thru both sets of upper gear sets.

I put a set in one drive this spring when we found chunks on the magnet when changing oil, the other one went out with a BOOM, and he doesnt have boxes.

The boxes dont help matters, but their not the total
cause of the problem.....chinese quality gears are probably more of it.......the newly added power may have a little to do with it too
