advice on bottom hook

wanting advice on sanding out bottom hook off 1989 280 sport. i'm switching from 330 hp. motors to 550 hp. motor. also installing 280 k-planes. outdrives (bravos)stock location

It's there for a reason. I know some that have taken the hook out & are not happy with the results, pertaining to Bajas.

the boat poiposes if i used any trim at all with the 330 motors at higher speeds. I don't know what more power will do about the poipose. Hope the k-planes will help and maybe removing the hook.

Agree with Jason....save the effort. Just make the boat go so much faster they are no longer in the water! Then they will only help you at cruising speeds. The K-planes will do much more to help you, or pay big money and have the bottom "blueprinted".

At 90+mph my hooks weren't in the water. :coolcowboy:

Have an 89 280 sport. With 330's and then 400's the boat bounced if it was trimmed, but just a very little tab settled it down.

Now have 540 hp 502s and will bounce at mid speed with trim. But at top speed does not bounce.

However these older bajas do chine walk as speed exceeds high 70s. It takes a lot of trial/error to get max speed with trim & tabs.

Keep us posted as you get the 550s going.

Switch to a good set of 4 blades. I have a set of 3 blade labs that came with the boat. It bouces with those, and rides much harder. Got a set of labbed 4 blades and it is a whole different boat.

I have contemplated removing mine, but like was said after mid 60's there not even in the water. Mine has a awfull porpoise if you cruise between 53-60 MPH. After about 63-65 you can really feal the boat free up. Wait till you put the new engine in and report back with what you find out.

Thanks for the information. I will try different prop configurations first. - Thanks
