A buddy of mine is buying it. The surveyor confirmed that it was a stress/surface crack. Here is a copy of an email that Baja sent after we inquired. It is still going to be repaired before winter.

We sent:

We are in the process of purchasing a 1998 Baja 29 Outlaw SST. We noticed that there is a small surface crack in the stringer supporting the starboard engine. We know that this is common with the 1998 - 2000 models. Is this a serious problem? Can you tell me what the fix is for it?

Thank you for your time.

They said:

What you are refering to is not really common but has happened to a few of the 29's. What you may be seeing could be just a gel crack caused by flexing. The best repair is to simply grind out the area and fill with resin and then re-gel. If you feel that this may be a problem in the future it may be to your benifit to have the boat surveyed.

If you have futher questions feel free to contact me at <[email protected]>.

Thank You

Wow - That's certainly good news. Not just the news about the stringer but also the fact that Baja Customer Service was so responsive. After reading the "Fountain Factory" thread, you start to worry.

I would have loved to ask the surveyor to look at the area in the in the 29 Outlaw that has been giving people problems to get his opinion on whether it looks like a trouble spot by it's design or whether it was designed OK.

Like a kid in a candy store. Now I've got to get him to OSO. He's not real computer friendly though.

I guess I have one of the "few" 29 Outlaws affected. Do you think they could of made the stringers a little beefier? It looks like they used 2" where they should have used 4" down there.
