Are all Baja 272 the same?

Anyone know what options or differences there could be?

What motors were available?

What is a trailer worth for this size boat? (used market value)

They had the 272, shooter, and Boss. Engines where 454 and 502. I have an eagle trailer that would fit it.

You need to search up the brochure on the 272. There were tons of options. Or, let me put it this way............You will find lots of variation from boat to boat, including the fact they were built during the years (1994)where you could have a carbed 7.4, 6.2 or ('97 or newer) a Gen VI EFI Mag power plant.

Really vague question. The 272 model was produced for about 10 years before changing to the 275, 278 then becoming a checkmate. Lots of different motors and subtle changes.

so are all 272 the same hull and top?

what motor is best and why?

obnoxus 02-23-2011 10:59 PM

bigger is aways better,,,, you could buy the boat with a 350 (5.7 ) small block, but you wouldnt want it.

It runs over 60 with the 330 HO 454 and tickle 68-70 with a 502 MPI and light load.

I bumped my cam a lil,,, blueprinted the bottom,,, ran a labbed 3 blade Mirage plus and still only hit 73

Yes, all 272's have the same hull and deck/cap. The 275 (01 or 02 and up) has the same hull and a different cap. That gives you a different cockpit, dash, swim deck, fore deck and engine vents just above the rub rail.

The 454 MAG or 502 MAG are the best 272 power plants. More HP, EFI/MPI and forged internals. I believe all 275's are on the 496 platform. In that case the HO nets 50HP over the 496 mag.

If it were me I would look for a '97 or newer with a 454 or 502 mag mpi.

454 - 385 HP
502 - 415 HP

Like Hook'em said, 496s in '02 and newer. 454 and 502 GM blocks were discontinued around then.

496 MAG - 375 HP
496 MAG HO - 425 HP

I wouldn't want anything smaller in a 27' er.

Do you have a certain one you're looking at? We could let you know what options it may or may not have.

For the guys in the know...

There were always (2) Hull molds at Baja for the 272's and later used for the 275 model.

There were also (2) early Deck molds for the 272, and later we built a 3rd deck mold that was built to accept the Plex. Windscreen option only!

Yes, there were times when production grabbed the wrong deck mold....

Don't know. Probably why I kept the photo in my files. It was just some boat that was on Ebay.

OK, this is a bit old, but I saw that picture with the red interior and had to ask what boat? Is that a 272? It looks like a boat with a decent cockpit space in it. I am looking for something this spring and have been looking at old scarab S-type and 272 sq. windshield formulas for thier larger cockpit space vs. underneath cabin space. This looks like a decent size. This and a 32 calibre that had four bolsters and a bench, that was a cockpit! How do you find out what models and years had larger cockpits? Or do I just keep pouring through threads looking......

I just saw something on the 272's that I never seen before, I was parked next to a guy that had a 2000, mine is a 2000 also. We both have the glass windshield BUT mine has a 1" to 1 1/2" fiberglass lip under my windshield that you have to step over when you walk thru the windshield , his was flat. The owner told me mine had the lip because it was a boss and could have the optional fairing, never seen or heard this before, Smitty

Yep. The fairing screws into the side of that lip.
