If the "walls of the chamber" dont have groves it usually works the ends all get groves in them and yes you can use that plate. Is the damn thing pumping water out the exhaust???.....Pull a hose and start it up that will let you know. Plus I think the alarm is constant when you dont have water PSI

yes it is throwing water out the exhaust but it is steamy. dont look like its as much coming out the starboard motor. guess i could switch the pumps and see if it follows?

There should be no grooves what so ever...everything should be smooth....the ends will look like the grooves were machined but there not.....it is suppose to be smooth! The design of the brass sea pump is bad, once sand goes thru it and the temp begins to go up the circulation is down causing this. Just change the pump and don't do any further damge to the engine. Hardin marine makes a stainless replacement that is cheaper than the stock merc pump and is better.

At those prices I think I'll just replace the entire pump annually with a $50 Sierra kit. Of course I boat in the Ohio river. Deep water around here and don't have concerns with picking up sand. I only have to dodge dead bodies

Is the fresh water flush at the top of the engine compartment where you screw the hose straght to the boat? I did use this the day this all started and I ran the boat for about 15 min while it flushed! did that screw it up? are you sposed to run motor while hose is hooked up at that location?
