Looking for 342 Boss

I am looking for a 342 Boss either a 2001 or 2002 for the bigger cockpit. If anyone knows of a nice one on your lake or where you live please let me know! Thanks

95outlaw 07-18-2011 11:54 PM

I can't remember the year but there are 2 342's in Spokane, Washington Craigslist. They may be performance not BOSS though. Both are under 60K.

bajarick 07-19-2011 05:02 AM

Call Dan at pirate marine he has one in berlin ohio
he sells boat trailers.

Davedog 07-22-2011 01:52 PM

The 342s for sale in Spokane are a 99 and and 00, both small cockpit style. Both are in great condition. It sure is easy to get to the motors with the extended engine cover.

Yea both look like nice boats. I def want the bigger cockpit tho for more room. I don't work on boats I just play with them :). I will let my mechanic worry about fixin it when chit goes wrong. I actually found one here in OK that is exactly what I want but I just don't like the color scheme at all!

justin29 07-22-2011 09:17 PM

Not sure of the year but there is one at loto. It was on a lift at west side bay condos I believe. Close to Frank and Louies. It was at Captain Rons at support poker run. Not sure about year, had 500efis with extentions. For sale with no. wrote on side of boat. Thats all I know, sure somebody here knows the boat.

nick9671 11-08-2011 02:33 PM

still looking for a 342 if anyone knows where an 01-03 with a generator is please let me know. It is a particular boat that I am looking for so that makes it harder but I guess I will just have to be patient.

Thats a clean 342. Nice base to start with for horsepower upgrades too.

Do you want U shaped seating or the big dance floor seating?

Agreed. The trailer is garbage, but I wouldn't sell my '99 for that price.

baja pete 11-09-2011 02:53 PM

I'm still willing to sell my 2000 for less than that, but it has the larger sunpad.

Pete

nick9671 11-09-2011 02:57 PM

both are very clean boats and I have spoke to the guy about the one in Lubbock, TX. Almost seriously considered buying it, but after thinking about it I am pretty set on having a generator. I know there aren't many out there with gen's but I am willing to wait til I find one. As far as the seating I don't mind the u shaped or the bench....

Baja_342 11-09-2011 03:48 PM

I've got the genset in mine. It is nice to have. Down side to having one in a 2001 or newer is room. It'll have to go (or be) under the rear seat. It leaves very little storage in the boat when you consider the AC under the v birth and vent hoses running under the couches in the cabin. Take away the rear bench as well...not me. I prefer the larger bilge and sunpad on the '98-'00 but that's just my opinion.

nick9671 11-09-2011 04:07 PM

Have looked at one with the genset and the smaller bilge, was plenty of storage for me....

nick9671 11-09-2011 04:21 PM

Definitely has more storage than my fountain which has almost NONE!

Keith Atlanta 11-09-2011 05:49 PM

The sunpad must be 7 ft long. Mine is long enough to lay on and it is the short one with U seating.

Dont worry about engine access, once you figure out how to get the back of the bench seat out it is easy to access everything.

I am looking for 342 with vacu flush , AC , and genny.

nick9671 11-19-2011 02:38 PM

I don't know about that site. Kieth's has been for sale on there for 4+ years and as far as I know it's not even for sale.

The other two at $85K +...... I'll beat the price of the 2000 on there. :grinser010:

offshorexcursion 11-28-2011 04:17 PM

A lot of people want a 342. Guess that's why checkmate bought the mold.

Bought ?..... I was told it was a "gift";)

XT-Innovator 11-28-2011 05:18 PM

I think the most money spent on old tooling was with the Crawford County Land Fill. :party-smiley-004:

The checkmate version is probably a little faster - power for power.

Theres is much simpler with less options and a few things they just didnt do at all - like the swim ladder cover... The upholstery is a lot simpler too.

Baja_342 11-28-2011 06:58 PM

I wonder if they've sold the only one they built??

The swim ladder door mold was discarded a long time ago, but we do have Tim's 342 here and can make another mold easy enough....

Don't remember if the Checkmate 350 ZT tested that much faster than old Baja 342's, but the engines weigh more now with closed cooling, and catalytic converters on them.

Call Dean Reynolds at Checkmate Marine for his honest opinion. He is the person that tested the Checkmate version, AND he would be the same person launching the 342 in the Boating ad that Dock posted from 99'.

Keith Atlanta 11-28-2011 09:36 PM

What I was saying was if someone builds one with Checkmate get foam core construction, core combined with the current Checkmate layout (pretty simple) could make far a pretty fast good handling boat. Essentially, what I removed... The cabin could shed a few pounds. I thought mine was built like a tank - but a tank isnt fast.

I have looked at that boat.. the paint on the back ruins it for me. its does not match let alone it does not look good. alos has alot of hours, which i am not scared of... but ontop of the rest no go.

Just an example...you know what I meant. Don't know any details about the boat, but it's the cheapest late model 342 I've seen.

nick9671 12-07-2011 03:26 PM

There are some out there 2001 and newer with the smaller bilge that have the gen under the rear seat, which is what I am looking for. Seems like most are just shore power. I love the room in cockpit of the 2001 and newer and the wife demands a gen so I will patiently wait. I have looked at one in person but the color scheme on the boat was just too ugly for me.

Funny I actually spoke to my mechanic about that but according to him it would be a pretty large project and would cost me too much money to justify. Lots of modifications and rewiring of the boat
