possibly stupid question....29 outlaw the fastest?
given equal power (Stock twin engines) I assume the 29 outlaw would have the best topspeed in the Baja fleet?
With HO's that boat must fly :coolcowboy: thanks mb. |
Nope. 33 Outlaw I think is the quicker hull.
|
The 33 Outlaw may be a quicker hull, especially after they raised the "X" in 01, but with equal power, seems to be no way it would outrun a 29. JMO
|
There probably arent a lot of them that will outrun that beast Jason has, REGARDLESS of length (-:

And I've seen a 35 being as fast as a 33 with no tricks, bone stock. Both around 73. Never seen a 30 run more than 71ish with that setup. I think the balance makes a huge diff. Jason S, you out there with some info??? Nothing stupid about your question. |
I'm confident there isn't another 29 Outlaw out there that ran faster than the 92mph I ran at the Shootout in 09 or the 94mph I ran on GPS here in Texas in 2010.
That being said, the 33 is the faster Baja with equal power. Those looking for a nice 29, mine is for sale, minus the Whipples. It will run mid 80's on 454's right now and I'll deliver it. [YOUTUBE]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBlmwpjObds[/YOUTUBE] |
I have owned a 29 outlaw great boat but my 30 outlaw would spank my 29 power for power at 81 mph on gps. my 35 outlaw from fountain out ran my friends 2005 33 outaw when i had hos at 76.7 on gps with a 21.5 X. :drink:

Definately a kick azz boat! Did you sell the whipples? Or are they for your next project?
Michael The Whipples did not make it unfriendly, they just took away some of the ease of ooeration for those who are unfamiliar with how to treat the sticks. They did add a level of supreme frustration to routine maintenance. Farting in the engine compartment was even more difficult than making a Speedo bathibg suit look good on a 300 lb hairy Italian. |

I sold them mostly because I grew tired of fixing broken drives. I also have been making plans to leave the boat on Table Rock lake. Mostly because that lake is "home" for me and additionally so my Dad & step-mother could use it on occasion. We live 8 hours drive-time & 2 hours fly time away. I love Texas, but Missouri boating is where I want to be.

I imagine unless you knew EXACTLY what your doing [which you obviously DO] you could into trouble pretty quick at 90+ MPH. I currently have an older 24 Outlaw, and at 6ft 2, 220lbs [and growing!] I am VERY well acquainted with how LITTLE engine room there is in some of these boats! What drives where you breaking? XR's? SCX's? HOPEFULLY not #6's!! Good luck with the sale [Although if I was your Dad I would be pretty happy if it DIDN'T sell] Apart from a VERY short list of one off "factory" poker run boats, yours is definately one of the most Kick Azz boats out there [-: Michael |
N20, you could end your search with the stroke of a check for my boat. You won't find one faster for less money......
|
I have a friend that has a 29 outlaw thats stock and runs 79.99999.

I remember hearing something about that one.

Unreal! Some guy buys a boat, modifies the crap out of it, crashes and its the MANUFACTURER'S fault???
Lawyers get rich off this stuff, never ends. I think I am gonna put a blown alcohol motor in my Duramax along with a 20" lift kit and 40" tires, then sue General Motors when I roll trying to go around a corner at 90MPH. Idiots! Jason, I have NO problem writing you a cheque for your boat, however YOU might have a problem with it bouncing, lol Like most people if I had the money and SOME tiny bit of job security I would be selling off kids to buy it! |

The first prototype 35 ran 75 GPS with HO's at a 18" X dim. It is the notched transom that seems to work well on the 35 hull. Notch a 33 and I bet you would gain 3-4? If you had all 4 models with the same HO's, I would put my money on the 30ol first, followed by a 35 or 33 Outlaw. The 29 X dim. was limited in height to keep the stock exhaust under the alum. platform location, and the platform was mounted as high as possible. XT |
The 30 will be the fastest, the rest will be lumped
pretty close together. Back in 09' I ran with a guy with a HO 30 in my rental HO 33 O/L on and off for about 20 miles, and any time he wanted to, he could pull away with ease. 33's and 35's seem to run fairly similar. My HP500's 29 ran about the same as a buddys F2 HP500 33 O/L.....we would run those against each other miles on end and neither one was decidably faster. |
I have a 2005 30 outlaw with twin 496 HO and run 80mph all day long bone stock....
|
My dads 07 35 would run 74.5 on gps with HO's after we got the bottom blueprinted to take the horrible porpise out of it. It also would beep the rev limiters the whole time. Never got a chance to try 28's on it.

Thats nice, I m looking into a 32 sunsation or a 33 when my 29 sales. Is there anymore room around engines in 33 than the 29?
I leave the bolts out of the upper back seat so I can take it out whenever I'm working on it..... just lift it out and set it up front. |
What makes the 30 that much better than the 29. Are there any know problems with the 29s other than the drives being too far in the water
|
They both have there little pro's, & con's. The 30ol has a little larger (flat) delta keel, and the 29ol has a smaller rounded keel. The 30 has a sharper trailing radius than the 29ol. (I had my 29 transom sharpened and it seemed to help speed, and porpoise) The 30 has a little larger size Strakes, and Chines with more negative angle on the chines. The running surface tapers from 24 deg. at the transom to 25-27 deg. on the 29 near the bolsters, and the 30 is a constant 24 degree running surface. The 29 has large 3/4" hooks outside of the outer strakes, but they should be running dry at speeds over 70.
One dislike on the 30 is the plastic fuel tank and the molded baffles in it. They do not seem to work as well as a aluminum tank with full (aluminum) baffles like the 29 fuel tank. The 30ol has the largest "plastic" fuel tank than any other Baja model, and when the tank is around 1/2 full, the fuel (slosh) can cause a weird reaction in certain hard turns. It is a lighter tank though. XT |
Thanks XT. The 29s are definately coming down to reasonable prices. I was on a 33 on the weekend and I sure do like the space. My only complaint on my 25 is the cockpit room or lack there of. Just not sure there will be enough more on the 29.

I am seeing more and more 29s under $40k now and wondering if a 33 on a trailer can be bought for $40k in the northern states close to Ontario. I assume the 33 would run similar to a 29 with either the 454MAG or the 502 MAG. I have seen a few 33s with 7.4s but figure they would be a 55mph boat. I want to stay at the 68+mph. I am seriously looking.
|
I would think that the 33 with 502 would be a 72-74 mph boat. Mine with 500 efi's will run 80 most all day except when I have to stop for Fuel.
