smitty thanks for sharing that info. i have a 24baja doing 85 stock drive i was going to put a shorty on . after reading this i am going to leave it just were it is and have fun:drink:
I'm not saying a shorty won't work for what others are doing, I have heard they do miracles on 24 and 25 ft outlaws, just in my case my boat has always ran fast when trimmed real high or at least fairly high. I had boat trimmed what would be normal for mine, prop blew out and bow hooked which tried to make boat spin out, this happened at about 96-98 mph, boat went sideways, I turned into it, throttled up, went sideways the other way, back and forth until had boat under control, i almost ripped my arms out of there sockets trying to stay in the boat but did stay in, put the scare in me a little. Tried it with a 1" spacer then found it a new home on someone elses boat!
The boat rode and drove like crap too on top of blowing out, would break prop loose too easy/cavitate, there was nothing positive about it in my case. Might have been a different story with a 5 blade BUT the last time I tried one of them I instantly sheared off a billet prop shaft so it was really out of the question. What is your prop c/l, mine is 7.5" but boat rides pretty high out of the water when it gets into the 90's so my theory is a shorty becomes too short for my application, Smitty

I went to a -2 shortie on my 1998 baja 27 boss and love it, never looked back, all positives in my case. Boat runs faster, handles better and no blow out, running a stock 30 bravo.

I started hitting 100 at the end of last season with some 31 p5x kilo labbed props from Hydromotive over 800 per side, Guess what I just ordered larger pulleys Im freshening up the this winter and turning them way down .Im going to run 5lbs boost and 2lbs more fuel pressure .I rather clean soot off the transom then pull the heads .I have run in high 90,s for 6 or7 years .I cant tell the difference between low 90s and 100 unless Im next to someone. theres always going to be someone bigger and faster I youst to say boatings like nascar but you get 4 days to pit .I wish I had all the over night freight in the bank .I did have a lot of fun and still do ,my priorities are changing .Ill have to read this next spring because I could change my mind again LOL

If you're having to run a ton of up trim, you will be fighting it. At that angle the drive is trying to force the stern into oscillation and if you have any slop in the drive/steering it will exaggerate it.
When you counter steer it also exaggerates it.
More rake (angle of blades leaning away from motor) will have same effect as up trim w/o moving the drive and eliminate the other negatives.

Custom ground Cam motion hyd roller from Bob Madera/Marine kinetics. Has around 248/256 at .050 and .647 lift if I recall correctly, I can spin motor to 6200 with 13/14 psi of boost (when blower belts NOT shredding). Smitty
