I figure since I'm upside down in it anyway, with all the $$ I spent on making it fast, I might as well keep it and buy a plane too instead of another boat.

Or...... You could leave the interior and paint the way it is and spend the money putting Whipples back on it! Gotta LOVE the whine of those things at 90+ MPH!

Bring it to Ohio and we can redo that interior, and have Kustom Kolors paint it. Spend the extra money next year traveling with it more on poker runs. Texas is a dust bowl anyway, and you could leave it in other states and fly in on the weekends to party. OSO members could house Bad Idea, and use our trucks to ramp it on the weekends for you. Who else other than us Bucyrus boys is in on this? XT :boat: |
i would do it along with the Bucyrus boys

JS, Ok this sounds good! Bad Idea is like your kid now, kind of like Mark, and Dock Holiday. Sometimes I think thats why it is easier to sell a bone stock boat over a personalized boat.

XT :boat: I'd like to do Desert Storm and some Florida runs in 2012, but really, after the 2009 season we had, it is gonna be kinda hard to top that much fun. I'm still taken aback as to how much $$ we blew in fuel that year! Nearly every weekend from Memorial Day to Halloween we were somewhere with the boat doing a run of some sort or just having fun on Table Rock. I want to get that passion back. I think a facelift of the boat would help that along. Here's to 2012 :drink::drink: |
I want a 2012 like your 2009 sounded! I just need some surface drives hanging off the back to get my passion back. If not I will just have it tied up next to my cruiser while we party.

I think I may have found a 29. Question, how quick are these with HP500s in them? 75? It sounds like the carbed versions are well built motors as long as the valve springs have been changed. I dont have a 29 close to where I am but my friend has a boss 302. A couple of questions...the room in the 302 up top is great, I assume the outlaw would be a little less? and the v birth bed on the 302 is smaller than my 25OL. Would the 29 be more similar to my 25? The boat is running 26 4 blade props.
|
I've owned both a 302 and 29 OL. The 302 will have quite a bit more room than the 29 between the bolsters and bench. I don't recall any differences in the v births.

The v-births, and engine compartments are the same. The cockpit in the 302 is about a foot longer, and is a foot shorter than the 29ol between the doorway, and main bulkhead at the v-birth. The rear hanging closets in the 29ol is the extra space.

It must have 1.36 ratio drives then....I ran 30's on mine. Mine ran low 80's |

Krager, sent you a reply if you don't get it my # is 617-895-8606. I'm not in front of computer to often.
|
Whatever you decide, if it is a 29 Outlaw, remember they respond VERY well to extension boxes & -2 or pre-2000's boats like mine, -3" lowers.
Mike Bandy & myself have already spent the money on our boats to know what works & doesn't work so well on the 29 Outlaw. I'll tell you everything you ever wanted to know about my setup and Mike surely will do the same. |
thanks jason. Finding one with 500s is just a bonus to me. I really dont care to run 80 but it will be nice to cruise at 70 and still have some left. What should the 500 hp carbed run for rpm? 5000?

Well, it looks like I am going to pass on the one with 500s. Needs more work than I am prepared to do. Still looking for a 29 or even a fastech312 with the bigger motors
|
There are a ton of them out there. Many ragged-out turds and a few good ones that are priced too high (mine included)
|
Any good sites to find them online? I have done the oodle/craigslist.
|
I will make u a nice deal on my great condition 29 ....if you want a 29 outlaw this is the one

WOTW2E purchased one of the last remaining sets of Scorpions for his 05' 30 Outlaw because I got word of some discount pricing on them. He loves how well balanced small blocks are in a 29-30 foot hull, and he gets close to 70 mph. Plus they look really COOL. XT |
Well, I ended up buying a 98 Boss 302 with 454 mags in it. Full Hydraulic steering with the low white windscreen. Boat spent its life in the 1000 Islands. http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/13417
Got it for considerably less and the boat is in real good shape. 3 tops with it too. Now just need to wait for Irish to see if the extended swim platforms will materialize. |
Very nice compromise! Looks to be well equipped.
You'll like the extra cockpit room in the 302 over the 29 OL. Mainly just cosmetic differences. Good luck with her. |
Congrats Kragar, looks sweet. Like the graphics. Any plans to do anything to it this winter?
|
It already has a smokin stereo in it. I really want to put an extended swimplatform on it. My 25 Outlaw one got used alot. Will drive it next summer and probably pull motors to freshen them up next winter as they have 400 hours now. Its stored close to home in a heated 40x60 shop along with 2 other boats, so a good wax and a few drinks drydock will be definate this winter.
|
Nice looking 302 :drink:
|
Sweet boat! Congrats. Thanks for keeping us updated.
If your waxing it this winter I have had great luck with presta super cut compount on a makita electric buffer, then collinite fleetwax (made especially for gel coat fiberglass). Wet sand first if needed. Engines should last you another 400 hours if they have been taken care of, just keep changing that fluid, let them warm up and cool down, etc. |
good looking boat. congrats on the purchase!
|
Never seen a mix of Faria and Gaffrig gauges before. Does it have electrical trim gauges in addition to mechanical indicators?
|
I need to replace a few of the guages. It appears someone tried cleaning with some sort of corrosive liquid as the 3 smaller guages on each side of speedo are hazed up like old headlights. I suspect the speedo was cjanged out. There are a few things I need to figure out. There is a dimmer style switch on the dash that I have no idea what it is. Also this is the first boat I have owned with Hyd steering and K-planes.
Boat still has the factory baja 25 Mirage props on it too. |
You'll love the steering and K Planes. My old 29 Outlaw had a dimmer for the dash. I've never seen one on a 302.
