looking for a OL 29 or 33

Looking to spend no more than $40 and must have a trailer. also looking in the northern states as I am in Ontario. must have Mag motors.
I am coming from a 9925Ol that gets mistaken for a 2010 so my next one should be similar. I dont mind buying an older(98-99) if it is kept nice. Let me know what is out there.
I am seeing a lot of older 29s for low $30s which makes me think that maybe a 33 is out there in my price range.

JasonSmith 09-01-2011 07:49 PM

I've got a 99 29 Outlaw that needs a new home. It is in Texas, which is as far North as I think America really needs to extend, but.....
It is also priced $15k higher than what you want to spend, however, I still like to let folks know it's for sale.
BTW, did I mention it is pretty quick?

Quicknloud 09-01-2011 09:05 PM

Here is one in your price range and a super clean 29

There seems to be a lot of them in the texas area.

anyone know anything about this boat?

tsayvan 09-02-2011 10:06 AM

About a 320???

I have 1993 320 With 2 new 502S FROM MERCURY with 1 hour on engines with 1 year warranty. Picked up boat July 28 2011. Boat has 250 total hours on it. I bought it with one bad engine and then found out both engines were bad. Lesons learned. Previous owner failed to winterize it. Anyhow 20+K later I have a boat I need to sell. Got pics if I have an email to send them to. North Louisiana here. 1998 B&M triple trailer also goes with it. Asking 32K or will take decent offer.

Wow, a 36 OL with 500 EFI's for $37K? And both engines "fresh"? I would have to wonder what "remanufactured" means - there are different definitions for that - he might have a couple of Jasper engines in there, or it might be built back to HP500 specs. I would check those CMI headers out closely - there were some leak issues in the past with them.

Seems like an unbelievable deal, but maybe the market has fallen that much.

Thats not a bad deal on that 36

n20michael 09-07-2011 12:28 AM

The 36 is REALLY nice, however, I spoke with the owner, and, although there is nothing "major" wrong with it, it needs a lot of small stuff fixed and some TLC

If you dont mind puttering with the tedious stuff it would be a GREAT deal, you dont see too many twin 500 powered 36ft boats for under 40K

kragar 09-08-2011 08:07 AM

I see it sold. Still looking. Have seen a few 97s but they dont have the leather V-birth down below. Really would like a 2000. Also, haven't seen any 29s with twin 502s. Was this a Big$$ option?

BUP 09-08-2011 08:27 AM

Not 40 K but not that far off - HP 500's and newer 2001 29 Outlaw.

The Baja dealers just learned real quick that the 385's ran just as strong as 502's. 500 HP's are kind of a waste in a 29ol IMO.

Does that mean everything North of Texas would be Canada? LOL!!!!

15K more? Would that include the whipples? Any luck finding a plane?

XT, in your opinion are the 29s worth buying or should I keep my boat for another year and wait and see if a 33 comes along? My boat is sold whenever I decide to sell it. The guy will wait for it. I just dont want to jump into a 29 if they have some inherant flaws which create issues for running over 70mph. I assume shorties would fix the transom height issues?

The 29 is a great boat to own. I bought a 00' brand new in 99' and had it till 2007 and loved it. It had stock 7.4's that (never-ever) took out a drive, and was turn key as can be. Entered it in many high powered poker runs like "Poker Runs America" and would just wave at the 1m dollar boats as we went past after they broke down.

Jason is the man to talk to about speed gains on a 29, but even he admits it is sometimes just better to enjoy the boat rather than chasing MPH. A 29ol will run all day long at 70+ with 385 Mags and that's all you really need in that boat IMO.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the maintainance difference.

I definitely wouldn't be looking at boats from known saltwater area's IMO your looking at having alot of gremlins from the salt.

Looks like that originally was a 7.4 boat, judging by lack of equipment
that a 500 boat would normally have.

Even my '99 29 with 7.4s had K-planes, mechanical indicators and Gaffrig gauges. Would an '01 be too early for 6.2s? Weren't the carbed 500s gone by Y2K?

kragar 09-16-2011 04:01 PM

Noticed it was a plain boat. Also knew the motors would have to be new installs. Says most of its life has been in Bukrus??? Mix of salt/fresh?

I think my 00' may have been the last of the 7.4's and they switched to the 6.2's in 01'.

That boat would have never left Baja with 500's and CABLE steering! Don't take the wife and kids in this one.

Why don't you just buy mine? Better power than 500's, better drives, extension boxes, new trailer, faster than a boat with 500's.......

Thats because it is not $35k. I'd take 35k down and finance the other 20k myself.

kragar 09-29-2011 01:54 PM

up here I dont need to out run everyone else. All my friends run 70mph. I am sure your is worth every penny and it is even the right color and graphics that I like. Just I wont spen $50k on a boat. I wont finance a boat for 3 mths of use a year.

I hear that! It isn't as fast as it once was since I removed the Whipples. The motors are fresh though, as are the drives. The interior will be done over the winter and I may even have it painted. I figure sine I'm upside down in it anyway, with all the $$ I spent on making it fast, I might as well keep it and buy a plane too instead of another boat.
