rev plate , need a answer

I bought a 24ft outlaw 1997 w a 502 mag ho and supercharger ( it does 80-85 mph). The original owner, took the rev plate off. He told me that if i jump the boat out of the water alot the egine will over rev and blow up.

He took the rev plate off for higher rpms and I guess to increase the speed.

I am worried about blowing the egine because it is 2009 almost brand new engine.

i don't take the boat out of the water alot.

My question to anyone is,

Will I lose alot of speed if I put the rev plate back on?
How much speed will I lose?

The boat does between 80-85mph. The original owner had it gps at that speed

If I do lose alot of speed, how can I gain it back?

Smitty 09-16-2011 08:16 AM

What is a rev plate ?? Never heard of that ??

bajabob 09-16-2011 08:36 AM

did you see the gps numbers???????????? did you test the boat . what prop are you running at what rpmdo you have a msd box ?they have a chip for the rpm

JasonSmith 09-16-2011 09:10 AM

I think you're trying to say Rev limiter. Tell us about the engine. Is it fuel injected or does it have a carburetor?

Fenderjack 09-16-2011 10:04 AM

Yah never heard of a rev plate.. All you have to do is pull back on the throttle if you jump out of the water.. And if it is in fact a rev limiter, no it will not hurt to put it back on.. As far as them speeds, I am not going to buy the 80-85 mph, unless it is a SERIOUSLY built set up with all the rite stuff..

yes i own the boatand had it up to78 mph, myself, the owner said tobecareful when it comes out of the water, becasue he blew a 454 that way , don't know the pitch, but it is a spinelle prop, and it was custom for that boat and they pitched it to get certain rpm, don't know to much, what is a msd box

rev limiter shock absorber arm question

just bought the boat for this season. new to the high performance end of boating , couldn't find a mechanic locally that was an expert on high performance engines, but found someone willing to work on it, and learn what he didn't know, he has a friend that was into high performance boats, so he has been consulting with him and is going to ask him about the rev limiter, the original owner called it a rev plate.

egine info

holley fuel injection system,, plus fuelinjector on egine, two fuel injectors

502 ho magnum 2009 merc

m1 intercooled pro-charger total psi total hp 720 owner said

bravo one out drive

question: i guess they call this a side winder hydralic shock absorberarm , it has no hose, but is supposed to support the out drive:

I heard pro and cons from the company called imco about it, but he is trying to sellme his product , he said this type of arm does more damage to the out drive then good, because it causes more resistance so things will wear out quicker, his product is an "external adapted hydraclic steering arm" since there are hoses hooked up toit, it is a better system, he said mine was old school and found to cause more damage then good. he said that i only need a single arm, becasue i don't run all day at 80 mph, he said it should be sufficent,.

what is you opinion?

do you know anyone that works on high performance boats with this type of set up?

conneroutlaw 09-18-2011 12:06 AM

when the mechanic, and i had it out the first time,we had it up to 78mph and had room left on the throttle to go faster, the owner had it gps between 80 and 85 mph, the owner liked speed, and had a custome spinelle prop made forthe boat. next year i will see if i can do 80 to 85, my boat season is over and being put in for the winter.

I told someone else earlier whatthe boat has in it, there could be more, dopn't know much about egines and the second owner i bought it from new nothing, i had to contactthe original ownerwith help on it

it has a k&n Filter, hollie fuel injector system, m1 intercooled procharger, 4 blade spinellie prop, 502 ho mer magnum. it may have more, and the owner said he had it pushed to its limits with in reason. not to fAR THAT IT WOULD damage the engine,

it roars like a lion, and shoots outn of the water like a rocket

ECU=electronic control unit.

This is the computer that controls the fuel injection and engine spark system on most newer boats made after the mid 90's.

msd box is the spark for the motor they use them in nascar. very good set up and it has a chip in it . i have a 6000in my boat the motor will not go pass that .your boat sounds good. i like to no what pitch your are running ? i never try that prop. i like to to see if it is better then the mirage prop.i have a 24baja with a 540dart motor with 718hp i run now 81 to 86 depends on the weather and tide ...80mph all the time! here me racing a 70mph wave runner super charge http://www.youtube.com/user/SuperBaj.../2/jmnD9VV_jB0

where do i go to find one of these boxes?

i will ask my mechanic the pitch of the 4 blad spinellie prop.

Do you know any mechanics with experience with high performance egines?

the original owner said he had it gps at 85 once, but does 80 mph all day, i had it up to 78mph, it starts to move the back end around alittle at 78mph.

not shore aboutde winder shock absorbers? i have full hyr. steering . mine move side to side thats because the boat is out of the water too much. if you look at my video you will see the boat is hardly in the water the drive i think it needs to go higher. 2in shorty. i really do not want to buy one and find that a shorty will not work ??? the 4 blade they say it lifts the back end up. i run a 3blade and take some of the cup out of the prop and it up

I do have the factory 3 blade mirage prop in my shed. I might try it out next summer. The original owner said it is not strong enough forthe out drive, becasue ofthe modifications to the engine. I may go to the adapted hydraclic steering , forright now. The salesmen at omc, said I could keep adding on to the steering, until I have a complete system. Also the one at ocm, is half the price of lathems. Plus the lines are stainless steel, and has a better turning radius, and can be rebuilt for 100$orso. They sell buy bulk, so it is cheaper. I don't runit allday at 80mph plus, so he said a single one adapted on is sufficient.

Just to let you know we have a person who is picky about ourmessage. He commented on my writting. i guesshe is really board.

What does a shorty do? I am new to speed boat industry. But been a boater for 30 years

Are you happy with the imco steering unit?

I appreciate all the help. I am not a motor head. Just have a quick boat that I am trying to learn alot about. My mechanic is trying to learn for my sake abou thigh performance boats, and consults with a freind for advice. Great mecahic Just new to the field like myself. but both learning together. I can't find any in my are that is well educated on this type of boat, so i am taking baby steps. Mymechanicishonest and won'tscrew meover,Hard to find thosetypesofpeoplethese days. I want to apologize to everyone for all of my rude comments earlier. The issue at hand is talking about boats and helping each other answer questions about a sport we all enjoy.

Sorry again for any remarks, I have made.
