By the way, I would also be interested in buying one of those 'extended' platforms for my 302 if anybody finds a random cache of them somewhere.

I had a good friend that had a 96' Baja 302 that wanted the extended fiberglass platform, so I asked the glass manager if the mold was still around to make one. (this was around 2006) He told me then that the tooling was scraped by management, but he said he had one for a parts order that the dealer never took. I think I purchased the very last one made for my buddy. I should have made a mold from it back then.
We never had a vendor design a Aluminum platform for Baja Marine, but I would love to see a photo of one!
Do do have access to the Baja 192 Islander extended swim tooling if anyone needs one of those?

Swimplatforms.com will make one if there is enough interest and someone takes a boat to them for mock up. They make a really nice aftermarket platform. Guy used to work for Sea Ray. I've seen a lot of his platforms on boats at our local lake and they are top notch.

The first deck plug design was real bad, and the rest of the normal design group saved it the best we could. Ron Hill was never called again.
OK, you guys are really bringing back old memories now!

It was NOT the normal design group! His name was Ron Hill, and he was a outside design consultant that was hired to design that model at the time. His taste was really "out there" and I remember he mentioned the Buick Riviera look back then. During one meeting he stated "why is the joint-line always around the upper two-thirds of the profile? What if the rub-rail was near the chine, and the deck was much taller." (we just looked at each other)

[QUOTE=Knot 4 Me;3545818]My buddy that had a 302 called his the "Platform Of Death".
Exactly, I think they just stuck it on there so when people started slidding off the back of the 302, they would not hit the props!!!
I loved my 302, but I always worried about passengers taking a fall.....
