33OL w/ 496HO's
Been reading this site for quite awhile as I'm doing some research for my next boat. I'm torn between the 30OL and the 33. The extra room in the 33 is very nice but I'm wondering if the 33 with HO's is really slow to get on plane and kinda sluggish? Also how many mph's do you lose between the 30 and the 33 both with HO's. Thanks for the help!

No speed difference really. Sometimes the 33 can even have the upper hand on the 30. Time to plane depends on a few factors, but there is not much of a difference there either. The 33 is probably the best hull Baja ever made imo. Both boats are nice, but if they are in the same shape ect. I would never hesitate to pick up a 33 over a 30. Depending on where you boat, you will also like the added length of the 33 in rougher seas. Run both, see what you like, you are the one who has to live with it. |
I have seen posts on here saying a 30OL will be close to 80 with HO's and the 33 will be in the low 70's. I do most of my boating on lakes and maybe 1 or 2 offshore days a year and maybe 1 or 2 overnights. Planning on driving them in the next month or 2 when it warms up a little. Thanks for the input.

33 is an amazing boat! Do you mind giving us a budget, year, etc? Where do you boat?
|
I have a 03 33 ol with 496 mags and it run 69 to 72 mph depending on
how much fuel and how many people with 4 blade 26 props,it comes out of the hole like a sling shot. |
Yeah, don't worry about planing with HOs. My much heavier 342 with 502s jumps right on plane. I flirt right around 70 depending on how full or empty the cooler is:)

Anyone of these 33's for sale in the Great Lakes area?
|
Around a 100k is where im looking. Im not set on a year, that will just depend on hrs, the shape of the boat ect.. I do most of my boating on a lake in NC/SC, and may take it to the coast a couple times a year.

Equal power, the 30 is a bit faster....the 33 wins all other
comparisons. $ 100k, you shouldnt have any problem finding one ....heck, I figure if I could even get 75k for mine, that would be tops. |
Like others said...probably the best hull Baja made, great balance. Have run several 33's when I was in the biz. Pre-01 with the 502's would run low 70's. 2001 and newer Baja raised the factory X. With HO's expect mid 70's, MAG's low 70's. 29's and 30's will be faster but the 33 will take the slop better thus being faster in rough.
I have been watching a few 33's right now, some good deals out there on a few...others I guess haven't seen the news on the economy we are in  |
