Need some help... First boat!
ok, i'm ready to buy my first baja (and first boat). I am trying to decide between at 275 Boss and a 29 outlaw! I will be boating with my wife and 2 kids, so the bigger boat is more attractive. Any suggestions on single vs twin power for my first boat??

when i carry precious cargo i really like having two engines. its made the difference a few times, lets face it break downs happen. also there is no comparison when manuvering around the docks. you can do soooooo much more with twins.
down side is twice the upkeep, twice the mods when you make them. and twins make twice the noise, that goes either way ie good or bad. bottom line is ive had bolth and ill always have twins... good luck... |

If you like the windshiled of the 272 look at the 302.
|
ok, thats what my thought was. does the windshield on the performance provide alot more wind protection than the outlaw...

where do you boat ?
|
and dont forget,,,, the 29 outlaw is actually over 3 feet bigger then the 275 because of including platform in the 27, but not in the 29
|
the Boss 302 has almost the same Hull as the 29 Outlaw and a lot more room.
|
Go with a 29 OL or 302

It does help with the back seat passangers some, but they still get alot of wind there. The extra room in the 302 is very nice though. |
ok cool. I will be doing all of my boating on the great lakes, here in ontario...
I will look on the net for a Boss 302 tonight... I am drawn to the outlaw... im guessing in the 302 you would want twin Mag HO's??? |
I have a 2000 Baja 342 Boss I am selling, let me know if you would like details and pictures.

ok another question... from the wife.. the big diff i see in the cuddy from the 29ol the the boss 302 is that the boss has a small kitchen set up... fridge etc... So my question is.. if weekending on the boat, do you really use it, or does a cooler do the job...

As a boat for the whole family, the windshield of the 302 is a very nice addition for sure. Both the 496MAG and 496MAG HO are nice boats. Yes, the HO will of course be the faster, but the non HO is not a bad deal either. It'll run high 60s, it's good especially for a first boat. I do personally prefer the HOs. we have them in the cruiser, runs nice, sounds nice and are very easy in terms of maitenace if you leave them alone. Don't worry about upgrades, the internals are not build for this. The day you feel like going faster, get a faster boat.

I have a 29 Outlaw and I can usually stay out of the wind. There is a lip at the top of the windscreen that directs it up. Helps that I'm short though, 5'6".
|
We love our 29, great all around boat. IMO the windshield if you are looking for any sort of protection I would go that route because it does offer more protection from the wind etc (but I'm also only 5'8" on a good day lol) and if you are looking for amenities for the fam, overnight staying etc. the 302's have optional air and gally pack in them vs. the Outlaws that are more bare bones....
You couldn't go wrong with either boat... Stick with the MAG's or HO's (if you can find HO's)... Our 29 with HO's is for sale but not advertised, more word of mouth but it is listed on bajaboatowners.com Good luck with your search! |
Outlaw. Alum swim platform is the only way to go it you swim much.
First time you slide off FG deck you will understand. |
