With a Bravo there should be no roost, so if you see that or the boat starts porpoising bad, you're too high. If the wake is breaking off the hull in front of you (farther up the boat) you're trimmed too low. Start there and even use a smart phone gps. If that doesn't put you at least in the low 60's, you have a motor issue. Check compression and spark to start, could be as bad as a blown motor (rings/valves/worse) or it could be as simple as not getting a powerful enough spark. Sounds like you know your outdrive, but the prop doesn't have any major dings right?
I'll try that when I Have it out Sunday. also after looking at the prop it's not that clean and pretty rough. I got another 23 plus to try and I also have a 25 plus as well. I should have a better idea after this weekend what is going on.

wasting your time with that 25 pitch....wont pull you out of the hole worth a nickle and you wont have enough rpm's up top to see any speed gain. as far as a roost from a bravo i think what he was meaning is the typical dip****s that think they have a #6 surface drive on the boat and are throwing a 10' roost....i have to agree with him you shouldnt be seeing much roost at all

So we were out in the bay today had my daughter aboard (16 months) so no flat out runs but saw some huge improvements! Trimmed out like machloosy suggested and also had a different 23 plus prop on there. Now we are at 53-54 at 4k rpm which insight and day from where we were before. I can now cruise at 40 at 3500 rpms or so as well where as before we were at 40 at 4k. Looks like I am Definitly in the right direction now. Combination of prop and trimming out seems to be fixing it.

You should be able to break 60 mph WOT easily. Are these speeds GPS or speedo?

btw my boat runs 40 mph at 3500 rpm with a stock 23 mirage +

Keep in mind that if you are running into a current, it can negatively affect your GPS speeds. GPS is only measuring absolute speed, but the hull is seeing the absolute (net) speed plus whatever the current is. If you were running upstream into a 10 knot current, that would have a HUGE effect on your GPS speed.

Ok, I have a 1993 Outlaw 24. Don't think there is a bit of difference in hull of your boat. I have been skimming the thread. I noticed that trim position is a topic. I have a warmed up engine with a bunch of good stuff in it. I have been running a merc racing labbed 24 bravo 1 mostly. The problem is that i have to stab the throttle about 3/8 throttle with the trim up to carry the bow with this prop. this prop is my fastest now. I have a mirage plus that i have over $700 (labor) with BBlades that is my best acting prop with bow carry all day long. but the speed is lower than this prop and my target rpm range (5600-5700) cant be reached. I know brett and I will get it right. Here is my wife and for a short run and you will see me set the drive out then in. This is not for show and is the first time have ever been able to see behind me. I have too much else to worry about in front of me and my cargo... than looking back.

My baby running! Thanks to Bob Madera. He made the ENTIRE build from pistons to valve locks. And, the pink is gone. She has new paint this season.

Awesome man. It's all the learning curve. I've never owned that specific boat so you've got some playing around to do to get it just right, but 53mph @ 4K sounds like with a little stick time you'll break 60 @WOT. Enjoy learning!

Im looking at a '98 24' Outlaw with a 454/300hp according to the owner... Supposedly runs 50+mph in his listing... Thought this was kind of low??
What is the going speed for a 24 OL w/ 300HP and presumably stock prop?? And what better prop to go with, w/o giving up too much down low?
Thanks, Chris
