I need HELP with my 24 outlaw...

Hey guys I need a little help and a little bit of knowledge thrown my way.

I recently picked up a 1998 24ft Baja Outlaw. The boat has a fuel injected 454 with a bravo drive.

I'm having trouble getting the boat to break 50mph. Yes 50. The boat runs around 45-50mph with a 21 pitch mirage prop at 4500rpms. I have no idea what the rpm's should be at in this boat, when I ran a 19 mirage it sounded like there was a rev limiter at about 4600rpms? Does this sound right?

what is a good prop to run, and where should my rpm's and speed be at in this boat?

Please help

Thanks
Dom

The RPM seems about right. How's your drive trimmed? You should be able to spin a more aggressive prop that high though. The injected engine is the mag, 385 hp. I have the carbed 330 hp version and with a light load I can spin my 23P 4 blade around 4600-4700.

A 21P prop, 1.5 ratio, 4500 rpm, at 50 mph is 16% prop slip. That might be a little high, but probably not too far off. I bet your drive wasn't trimmed up enough. How much boating experience do you have? See if you can get your hands on a 23P

I ran a 23P Mirage 3 blade. Mine was a carb 454, would hit 4900 RPM and run 58-61 on a good day. Outlaws like the 23P mirage. I tried a few and that's the best one for it. You could look at Mercruiser Manual #23 and it should show the RPM range for that motor.

Dom I can tell you on my 98 Outlaw with a 454 (carbed) with a Mirage 23 plus prop I am doing 52 at about 4400 rpm. Where are you located? I have a bunch of 23P props.

Plus or regular? I am running a plus on mine now and I think the extra cupping is slowing me down. Max I can get is 52 at 4400 rpm that was with 1 on board and half a tank.

23P, 1.5 ratio, 4400rpm, 52 mph is 19% slip. That's high

7.4 MPI or 454 MAG? If you're hitting a limiter at 4600 it's most likely the 7.4.

Hmm so it sounds I'm about right with pitch then. I'm gpnna switch my 3 blade 21 mirage for a 4 blade 22 and see if it helps.

I'm just Afraid I'm going to hit rev limiter.

I deffinetly could have thought I could run around 60mph

X2. Pulled the manual out and it says the 7.4 4200-4600 WOT.

My 95' has a 385mag, with a 23 mirage( not plus) spins 5250 ( on limiter) at 64mph GPS. With a 25 mirage (not plus), 4800rpm at 64mph GPS. Motor is bone stock with Dana exhaust.
