265 DVX new graphics, PICS. shine in your opinion

Well guys my 1990 Baja DVX is going in for new graphics / wrap. So far here is what the shop came up with. Im already having them move the "Baja" towards the back of the back more.

I have to keep a little teal color in it since the seats have teal in them and there is a teal strip painted on the bow.

Let me know what you think. Thumbs up, down, comments, hints, what you link, dont like, ect. Colors you like on boats, colors you dont like on boats. Please share.

looks great. amazing how much just graphics can update the look of a boat. i just had mine redone last week

92nsx 09-20-2012 08:15 PM

^^^ Nice, have any photos of it?

Ya i figured this was a good way to give the force hull a little updating...

92nsx 09-21-2012 01:37 PM

the latest pic with the baja moved back more

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps9bfbf9d0.jpg

Just need to work on the line(s) under the port windows (so it dont look like a smile face) and add back in the gray accents into t he bloack.

What you guys think, maybe move the baja back a litte more??

WILDwhenWET 09-21-2012 04:11 PM

You can cover the teal on the bow too with red & black & grays, get rid of all the teal on the new decals. Then ur next project would be to do the interior next..............

Then the boat would be all updated!

Just my thoughts!

WILDwhenWET 09-21-2012 04:12 PM

OH, I.d move it up to the rub rail too.....

Would look more up to date!

Good Luck!

i posted some pics in the Baja section. says New Boat Graphics.

i agree that i would go all the way to the rub rail with the graphics.

92nsx 09-22-2012 06:47 PM

Thank you guys for the hints. Ill ask about being the graphics up to the rub rail, and added cost.

Long story short there is a $1100 budget on the graphics. The sheriff's department is paying for the graphics since they put a gouge in the old ones. Anything over $1100 i'm paying for, that is why they are staying under the port windows and approx 24" wide max.

If anything we could maybe move the graphic all the way up ot the rub rail and have more white showing on the bottom, or later on just print the black with the gray accents on another wrap that would cover up to the rub rail...???

Well there still working on it. Below is the latest drawing. I feel the waves under the windows has to go and smooth it out.

This is what I just did quick in paint. Im thinking something along the lines like this

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps157a0ffe.png

Here is a quick paint i did showing / getting the idea of what it would look like up to the rub rail.

Something to think about or question...is the white of the wrap (which I am thinking is their base that they print the wrap on) going to match your white on your boat? For me, this could play a big role in things.

92nsx 09-22-2012 09:13 PM

Good question.

Here is a pic of the white wrap / base I bought from them to cover the tinted plexi. It isn't perfect match but close. I believe they will trim the the white that isn't printed on off but not sure. I'll have to ask

92nsx 10-09-2012 07:28 AM

Well guys here is what I came up with. Ill up date once it is done. Only one small touch up. The black & gray shadow around the bottom of the "B" needs to be a little lower. But very minor.

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...0DVX/Baja3.jpg

BajaDan 10-09-2012 07:46 AM

That looks great but I have to admit that I liked the "torn paper" look on the lower edge from your earlier post that you did in paint.

What a striking remake. Carry on!

Dan

I like this last version the best. Updated, yet not over-the top.

Very clean and sharp.

92nsx 10-09-2012 11:16 AM

Thank you. Ya I wanted to go for more of a "smooth & clean" look with more modern graphic. Nothing to over the top due to $1100 budget. Also wanted to include some Teal color to tie into the rest of the boat.

Ken, it must be a tight fit under the hatch with twin's! We have pretty much the same hull! You have a link to any photos for your boat?

Budman II 10-09-2012 04:11 PM

92, does your boat currently have any graphics on it, or is it plain white? If plain white, you are one lucky devil, because I am going crazy trying to work around the gel graphics on mine. Personally, I would still move the "Baja" logo further back, or maybe eliminate it altogether and just go with some cool looking graphics. I was going to do something similar to mine, but now I am having second thoughts. If you are doing a wrap, the sky's the limit on the cool looking graphics that you could do. What you have is not bad, but if I was spending the money I would want to set my boat apart from the crowd of other newer Baja's with the same script logo on the side. That's just my personal thoughts - of course it's your boat.

Here is the thread on mine. Still have not done it - motor has to come out first.

92nsx 10-09-2012 04:52 PM

Yep currently it is all white except the bow strip. The around goes this boat went back to Baja in 1994 for new power (502 mpi) and new graphics. Witch the old colors (by port windows and what not) was also painted/gelled over white. As for moving the Baja back more it can be done but then takes away from the graphic being used. Tried once and didn't look to good .....

Pics of all white 265 ( still needs to be scrubbing to remove this years water stains/marks before new graphics)

I have enough room under the hatch for the camper tops and ropes!

I have a system that allows me to remove the back seat in 15 minutes, so when work or maintenance comes around, I don't have to play Houdini. :thankyouthankyou:

... and I prefer your bow rail...

92nsx 10-10-2012 10:17 AM

Yep our boats are pretty much the same except for the swim deck and bow rail. If you happen to ever stumbling across a starboard bow rail for mine let me know.... Mine is bent :(

Just wondering for comparison, whats your top speed with twins? I ran 56-57 on gps with compression all over the map( head gaskets bad) on my 502. I already have the head off and thinking I should should run 62-64 next supper on a 25p wheel

Ken, that is a nice looking old school 265! My 235 is an 88, and it had the teak platform on the back when I got it. I bought a used fiberglass platform off of a mid-90's Bandit, and it really updated the look of the boat. Much nicer not having to worry about teak oil or jamming a toe in the cracks between the boards.

And yes, I am in full agreement that a set of lower bow rails that terminate on each side would be nice. It is a bear to jump onto the front of mine when I have it beached on the river.

Well, let's just say the wife isn't into "performance boating." I'm second owner, got it with 20" screws, and "she who must be obeyed" does not see the purpose of $1000.00 in props.

It came from the dealer with 23s. I have, on brief occasions, turn the motors at 5400 rpms. They are stamped 4200-4600. I would like to turn them at 4800.

So, what kind of speed? The "wishometer" once read 70. No way. Last year, with a weekend's worth of gear, full fuel, and an extra family on board, we saw 54 mph on the wife's cell phone gps.

Once, while alone and fairly empty, I an along side my buddy's 272 with a 502. He certainly didn't "walk away" from me, but he had more.

Someday, I would like to set the boat up right and satisfy my curiosity.

I like your graphics choice 92!

Ken love the stance yours has in the water considering the twins.

Here is a recent one as we camped on the beach.

I think these make great boats for overnighters. We often "weekend" on ours.

Feel free to ask the questions. I also had tons of questions this passed spring. Between searching and posting 90% are answered. Others I just find out as I go. Also you have a bow rail for my boat?? .
Ill send you a PM or email me at [email protected]

Yes they are. We (the girl and may self) had 4 weekends this summer in the boat. Plenty of storage room, for laptop, food, small grill, beer, clothes, ect.

What also makes my DVX sort of special, it also has a "camper top". Turns a performance boat into a slow cruiser, and works great at night to keep the bugs away up here in MN. More photos here http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/b...cs-no-56k.html

Also here is the final design.

Budman II 10-19-2012 08:34 AM

Design looks nice! I am envious of that nice clean slate that you have with a plain white boat. Wish mine was that way.

There is an 89 Force 265 around the corner from a friend of mine. I remember when the guy bought the boat from down around the Lake Cumberland area. It was absolutely cherry when he bought it. Sadly, he let it sit all year in the driveway without a cover. Probably trashed now. I would be very concerned about the stringers and transom being rotted out after this. Otherwise I would toss him a lowball offer and pick it up. Engine is coming out of my 235 anyway this winter, and I could just swap everything over.

92nsx 11-05-2012 08:12 AM

Well after a lot of ideas and drawings, and just before the graphic went to print I changed it one last time. I completely removed "baja" from the graphic. It just was not working on the reverse side (and help form you guys). "Baja" will be a different graphic over lay.

Im not sure on the the color for baja yet maybe a dark metallic gray with a red outline? white? Reflective white(night boating and will pop at night). What colors/ examples do you guys think>?

Final

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c.../bajafinal.png

Example how the over lay with baja will look. Only Baja will be in any color/combo/size we come up with.

92nsx 11-19-2012 08:24 AM

Well guys it's done...Sort of. There are just a couple things to add/fix. First is to redo and center the "High" part of natural high. Needs to be center between the light and edge of boat like the old one OR Do I add a roman numeral "II" after High??? since this is liek the second life into this boat? Share your thoughts.

Second Is I'm going to print the "baja" part again in the same size only in pearl white, and use the gray baja that is on there now as a shadow. It is hard to read it.

Well on to the pics!

First layer with just background on

Looks good! I agree that the lighter color on the "Baja" script would help it to stand out. Adding Roman Num II would help balance out the number of letters on each side of the transom.

Now go our and invest some money in a set of BIG fenders and get some soft covers on them so your nice vinyl graphics don't get all scuffed up this summer. And stay away from boats using those cheap WalMart fenders.

92nsx 11-19-2012 05:19 PM

Thank you budman. So would you just re print the natural high or just add II after it?

Yep I got my on some new 8" fenders with some black covers.

mptrimshop 11-19-2012 06:10 PM

Looks great..... i would cover up the sripe on the bow with that grey.
