i am looking to buy a 29 to 32 ft baja and wonder what kinda of HP i will need to run low to mid 70 s and also what is the biggest baja i can get with single engine is it 29 outlaw or can i get a 30 with single engine ,from what i hear single engine is the way to go for a pleasure boater like i am !!

A 29 Outlaw will take 400hp a side to make mid 70's. Mine is for sale. It will run in the low 80's.

I would want twins in any boat bigger then 27 foot, they start to be slugs after that I think.... easier to dock with twins too!

Single = ez maintenance and access to motor. Twin = Pain in the ass to work on. Imagination something ez, like trying to change spark plugs or wires.

Also depends on how much space you want. My old school 265 (28'3" OL) is dam near perfect size. But bigger is always better, right....... Now to run mid 70's on a heavier boat (Over 27-28') that will take one big ass motor/high HP. Mine on a single 502 mpi should run low 60's. Currently only 56 mph with 2 low compression cylinders........

Twins are not that hard to work on..my 320 was tight. But I did it.... and I'm 6ft 255 lol

boat looks great but i am hoping to find one at a dealer and trade my baja in or i might try and sell it private just dont like tire kickers thats all

i see lots of them with 496 s!! i hear they are a ***** to work on ....any truth to that or just mecanics that are old shcool and like the 454 s better! i plan on this next boat be it for 5 years or so so i want to make a wise choice for the money i have to spend,i really appreciate the advice! i do like the idea of twin engines for docking and the power but over all the extra maintenace and fuel cost is it worth it ,i keep hearing a 30 % more fuel with twins which is not bad !!!!

If you want a true size boat single in that size you will need big power. Sure a 27 Fountain will do 70 with a 502, it a small ass 27.

I would not want a 29 or bigger in a Baja without twins. Yes they are tight to work on, but it can be done. Yes normal maint. is double, but that is not really alot of money in terms of a boat. Gas, if you are running both a single and a twin at same speed the single should use a little less gas, but not half.

Now should you break with a single, your stuck. With twins you still have a motor to get home.

a rebuild with a whipple side mount or a na rebuild with a hyd roller cam dart intake custom 1050 carb new heads will get you 600hp without heads and 650hp with heads and some stainless marine exhaust you will be mid 70s= 75 to 77. with 500hp 70ish. my 28 saber ran 68 with 500hp true 28 footer now with 1100 were shooting for 100. my 24ol has hit 83 but ran out of prop. that was with 650hp 1050 nickerson carb much better than my 850 bg.
