my old 252 liked the 4 blade for cruse speed. it was 3-4 mph faster with a 22p 4 then it was with a 23 3blad.

Somebodys blowing sunshine up your arse, this combination will be lucky to make 620 hp IF that. I don't know why someone would use a single pattern cam with only 224 degrees at .050 and then .683 lift. Buy a 26 LABBED, you will not be turning much more prop than that. It would take 30 degrees more duration and motor would have to be turned alot closer to 5800-6000 to think about making 700 hp , Smitty

i am thinking about an 5 blade

Cutting Edge Series III 5 Blade Labbed Cleaver Propeller

cutting edge 5 bladeManufactured from stainless steel one piece castings, then hand labbed, Cutting Edge Series III, 5 Blade Labbed Propellers are manufactured with strength and accuracy in a one off environment. Each propeller is tailored exclusively for the customer’s individual hull type, power and performance requirements.

Available in both right and left hand rotation as well as matched sets. Sizing availability ranging from 14 3/4” - 15 11/16” diameter with pitch available in one inch increments, odd or even from 22” to 36”. Polished or race prepped satin finish available.

Not a propeller for the faint of heart! Blistering top end performance and seat stabbing hole shot as well as increased mid range speeds are experienced from this large hub 5 blade cleaver with razor sharp edging and aggressively pointed tip design. In testing, this is our fastest propeller yet! Blade tips can be rounded slightly for swimmer safety. Comes on plane easier and sooner while staying on plane longer, this labbed propeller excels in all areas of high performance.

Smitty you're damn right
The Merlin 540 is a 630 hp motor if memory serves correct and I'd say this one is identical to one.
A Friend of mine put one in a 242 Baja and it had a 26P Mirage in it and thats all it needed.. plus I would've blueprint the bottom and take the Hook out of it.

My 272 torque rolled awful with the 5 blade maximus I tried, not sure you will have the same problem though. Cutting edge does some damn good prop work , my 272 ran faster with the 30 labbed Greg Hittner tweaked last fall than it EVER did before with any 30 pitch. I have had other big name guys tweak my labbed props and always ended up slower so I am VERY happy with the stuff cutting edge does, Smitty

ok thanks for the help i think i will try this propeller from cutting edge and see 26 pitch 4 blade.
this will work good ??

geggen 10-04-2012 03:33 PM

they have that prop in 2 sizes 15 1/2" OR 15 1/4” what will be the best choice?

MissBehavin777 10-04-2012 03:43 PM

I would be worried about those stainless exhaust values! INCONEL is the only way to go.

geggen 10-04-2012 03:52 PM

whats the problem with the stainless exhaust valves?

zeke 10-07-2012 09:33 AM

they like to break off and make a real mess.
