Hammer needs to do 80+
Hi, I have a 97 Baja Hammer w/ 454 mag mpi motor. Looking for options on getting this thing to 80+ on the water so far my best has been 75 on the speedo. Not wanting to go crazy and lose reliability or to much fuel efficiency. Didn't know if anyone had any input. I am looking for solid 80+ not just making the stars align and hitting it every now and then.

You need to get the steering taken care of first, if you plan to go that fast.
^^ This. If it's a stock 454, you aren't anywhere near 75. Get a GPS unit or if you have a smart phone download a GPS app.
Mine does great in a chop, just not rollers. That being said, I wouldn't want to be making a WOT run in even a small chop with a stock Hammer, much less one capable of 80+. :P

You're going to need external steering, a belt
driven air cleaner or something in the 500+ hp range to
get there.
Then, the right water conditions.

here you go:
http://www.hardin-marine.com/p-11550...ering-kit.aspx
It eliminates the factory system that is not reccomended for speeds much over 70mph(your probably actually running high 60s now) with an external system. Depending on the system your looking at $2000-4000, figure another $2000-$4000 for a supercharger if your engine is healthy , new prop matched to the new power , another $500 , little things like bigger oil cooler for engine , wideband air/fuel gauge, boost gauge, reprogram the factory efi for the blower , bigger injectors and you should be set .. All in all probably 10 grand should get you there correctly..
