Default AC pick up scopp/ Genny flat???

When i bought my 342, I was sure the brass scoop with a grill was for the genny. when i started working on the winterization I have learned other wise.

Why does the Genny not have a scoop? its just a flat brass pick up.

The impeller in the genny works the same as the impeller on the motors. It creates suction so no scoop is needed.

+1.

I have heard of people installing pickups to be able to run the genset while at speed.

I wouldn't without a high speed pickup.

Don't know how you didn't toast the Gens impeller running. Regular mushroom type thru hulls don't flow water into them very well while moving (if at all) , if not creating a low pressure and actually wanting to suck the water outta your gen when moving. I'd certainly think you got lucky. Might want to inspect that impeller just to be sure

I plan on replacing it first of the season anyway. the genny only had 15 hours on it when i got the boat and its 10 years old so its probably pretty creased up. has 46 hours on it now, and its still pumping water out fine though.

the AC actually squirts out a little water when running guessing that scoop is forcing enough water all tey wasy though the system...

even though I am pretty sure there is a little pump that picks up fromt he sea strainer, and pushes it up to the AC.
