id love to shorten the drive but im not going to spend big money on something that isnt going to help my situation... this boat also does not have a stepped hull...

It will help you a lot...plus it's going to gain you mph...less drag in the water...do some research

Something not right you say your running 73GPS @ 5200 rpm with a Bravo 1 24"prop drop one pitch size for a bravo 1 and that puts you at 3% slip... NO WAY. Is your drive 1.5 Ratio? You should be running about 66MPH if so.

I know it's impossible but with my old carb'd 496 I ran a 24p b1 1.32 ratio 5200 to 5300 and would see 75 and sometimes 76 on GPS. This was also confirmed by my buddy running next to me in his scarab doing 75 on his gps. Now calculate that slip... With your extra hp. I'd try a 28p b1. I'd stay away from a five blade. It will slow you down 4-5 mph it will help you plane but with yours it planes almost instantly. 5 blade is nice on a newer boat with really high x but not on an old 80's stock x standard bravo boat.

Had a warmed over 525SC putting out 650 HP in my 97 24 OL. It ran upper 70's. Could be a handful if you trimmed it out trying to get every last MPH out of it.

The boat has its limitations. You trim it up to get that extra couple mph out of it, you're going to run into chine walk - especially with a little cross wake. Just give up the extra couple mph and run the boat safer and not so lose.

Anyone else have this problem with their boat or have any suggestions on what i could do to fix the problem. I have added more power this year and will be shooting for 80mph. thanks J

I have a 1997 outlaw that does 80mph and I added imco full hydraulic steering. It made a big difference, plus it is safer with that type of steering with the speeds you will be doing.

Geobell, I know it sounds crazy and rediculous but I've tried this at least ten times and it always comes up the same. And yes drive is 1.50 ratio. I cannot believe myself from the calculator. If I got rid off the factory steering set up would it make a big difference if I did external steering?

So your Tach must not be accurate.

Bajajay98 11-19-2012 07:54 AM

I said GPS, meaning not my tach. My tach says 78, which is wrong. My gps says 73mph, I've run Next to other boats a dozen times and always comes back the same....I've called the prop guy from mercury racing and talked with him for hours and he says I should touch a thing the boat is perfect.

Your prop may not be a 24"pitch did you buy it new? Yes external steering will help but full HYD is way better. You will still get chine walk if you get into some cross wake no way around that you have to learn to drive it. How much trim are you having to give it.

Thats 13% a little more believable. Have you ran a 5 blade prop Maximus prop or a 22degree Hering prop???
