What hull is a 236

Looked at a 236 yesterday and I am considering making an offer, is this a unique hull design for Baja? It seems big for a 23, not sure of the deadrise, the owner said it rides well in rough water but is not really a fast boat, 454/330 with thru hull exhaust and he said it tops out at 51 mph on GPS.

I'm not really sure which hull is the 236 but I have a buddy with a 96 model.
Your correct, I find it to be a spacious 23' ride.
He tops out at 53 to 55, but we've found in Matagorda bay it can be a pretty bumpy ride with a strong prevailing wind and larger waves 2-4 than our normal 1-2.
He purchased his from LOTO for 12500 in June 2011 w/350hrs (same motor) from the original owner. One thing to watch is his only has the low water pickups in the drive, we've replaced the fuel/water pump whatchamidigger twice from picking up small pebbles when beached, it was a major PIA for novice mechanics like us but got easier the 2nd time.
I don't know if this info will assist you but thought I'd toss it out if it would help you.
All in all a great little boat!!!

See ya,
Kelly

The 236 is a one off hull design that I did back around 92'. It is 21 degree deadrise but it is a long running surface and will ride pretty well in some rough. Maybe not as well as a 24 Outlaw but good enough. Nice big roomy cockpit area because the rear bench is over top of the front part of the engine.

Great info on the hull, thanks. Still havn't made an offer yet. Wife pushing for a 272 Islander we looked at as well but it is 4K more than the 236 but 2 yrs newer and of course holds more people, I just hate giving up a cabin, the 272 hull didn't look as deep as the 236. Maybe it was an illusion.

272 has a 24 degree dead rise

So it would certainly ride better.

Your right, I should take my time, more boats will come on the market as the weather gets better, hoping to snag a bargain this time of year. Prices are usually higher once the season starts.
